Forget the spooky clichés surrounding Día de Muertos as the team at Picado at The Loom bring their authentic take on the well-known Mexican tradition to Cork Street this October and November.
A series of colourful celebrations kick off at 7pm on Saturday October 31st with a sold-out Mexican-style long-table dinner, featuring a welcome drink and traditional snacks, with vegetarian and meat-eating options available.
Their micro festival of culinary and creative experiences ensures that the emphasis remains firmly on food, family and remembering those who’ve gone before, while the wider series features Oaxacan tamales, piñata making, sugar-skull decorating, marigold crafts and stitching on photography.
It all culminates in the creation of Picado’s community altar – a vibrant tribute decorated with flowers, candles, food and treasured memories. Dubliners are invited to visit the altar at Picado at The Loom, courtesy of a special open day, with traditional Pan de Muerto and Mexican hot chocolate available. Admission is free, with a small donation to the Irish Cancer Society encouraged.
And those who miss out on this year’s supper but are keen to try some authentic Mexican food in the city will be delighted to learn that lunch is served every Sunday from noon to 4pm.
Following a series of successful pop-ups, for one day a week Picado’s popular cooking school turns into a bijou restaurant serving traditional Mexican food.
Keep an eye on their socials for details of weekly offerings, which feature an ever changing menu using the best of Irish and Mexican ingredients.
