IMMA goes into the experimental zone this Black History Month with Imagine Noire, a moving-image programme curated by The GALPAL Collective’s Lulit Luis as part of Living Canvas.
Running from October 8th –15th, the programme brings together four international works exploring Black identity, memory, beauty and imagination.
Featuring three short films and one music video, the screening includes Expect The Rhythm We Know from Belfast-based filmmaker Macy Stewart, FAAJI by Nigerian-Irish filmmaker Aisha Bolaji, Youlogy/No Ghosts by London-based artist Darryl Daley, and Bidaya by Sudanese creative collective the Elgizouli Sisters.
A thoughtful, boundary-pushing showcase of Black creativity, with plenty to ponder beyond the screen, the films screen daily until 8.30pm, with the programme wrapping on October 15th at 6pm with a panel discussion on Black artistry and imagination.
The closing event sees photographer Ishmael Claxton, Cork-based Tanzanian filmmaker Sekera Mohamed Besta and researcher Sandrine Uwase Ndahiro joining the conversation.
The programme commences on Thursday October 8th and concludes Thursday October 15th as part of Living Canvas at IMMA. The screening will run daily until 8.30pm.
