“Contemporary Icons gives visitors the chance to engage with works that have shaped the visual culture of the last century, and with artists who remain at the forefront of contemporary art today.”
A landmark showcase of the art world’s most influential contemporary artists, valued at €3million, is set to open its doors to lovers and collectors of art in Dublin this week.
The exhibition will showcase more than 40 exceptional artworks, offering Irish audiences a rare chance to experience major works by globally celebrated figures.
Contemporary Icons at Gormleys Gallery will feature masterpieces by titans of the contemporary art scene, from artists such as Andy Warhol, Banksy, Tracey Emin, Bridget Riley, Damien Hirst, Keith Haring, Julian Opie, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, Francis Bacon, David Hockney, and Robert Indiana.

Across two gallery floors, visitors will encounter powerful examples of Banksy’s satirical street-inspired screen-prints, Bridget Riley’s hypnotic geometric abstractions and Tracey Emin’s emotionally charged pieces.
At the heart of the exhibition is a remarkable selection of ten works by Andy Warhol, which exemplify the bold visual language that helped define him as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
Key in this collection is Orangutan (1983), regarded as one of Warhol’s most coveted screen-prints from his ‘Endangered Species’ series, priced at €220,000.

The pieces also include a striking portrait of Mick Jagger (1975) signed by both Andy Warhol and Mick Jagger, priced at €139,500.
“Bringing together this calibre of international names under one roof is exceptionally rare in Ireland,” notes James Gormley of Gormleys. “Contemporary Icons gives visitors the chance to engage with works that have shaped the visual culture of the last century, and with artists who remain at the forefront of contemporary art today.
Prints also offer a more accessible price point for both seasoned and new collectors who want to start investing in art.”

The exhibition also showcases the vibrant creative innovations of modern masters such as Dalí and Miró, alongside the raw psychological intensity of Francis Bacon, whose work continues to command global acclaim for its visceral exploration of the human condition.
Completing the lineup are iconic contributions from Keith Haring, Robert Indiana, Julian Opie, and David Hockney. Definitely worth popping into over the next few weeks. Bring your wallet!!
Contemporary Icons runs at Gormleys Dublin from Thursday January 15th to Monday February 2nd.
