Spilly Walker (The Joinery, Friday, 8pm, €8)
David and Robbie Kitt are two brothers not exactly short on talent. You’ll surely be familiar with the former because of his successful solo career as a singer-songwriter (and his new venture as New Jackson) and the latter has popped up in the Trinity Orchestra, an increasingly regular feature on the gig and festival circuit. Together they make up Spilly Walker, a warm, soulful duo playing house music with bucket-loads of heart. Recorded material is scant on the ground to date but their live shows to date have been very well received. Support comes from School Tour and Diamond Dagger.

Where Were You (Lighthouse Cinema, 1pm-11pm, Free)
From mods to rockers to punks to goths to metallers, Garry O’Neill has put together the finest collection you’ll see of the Dublin cultural underground’s photographic history. Beginning with the book of the same name, released last year and well worth picking up, the project has continued to grow and this exhibition of photos from the book and beyond is a great way to get a glimpse of Dublin’s street style and youth culture over the latter half of the last century. You never know, you might find your parents goth-ing it up.
Meljoann – Irish Tour Launch (King 7, Capel St., Saturday, 9pm, €5)
Undeniably one of Ireland’s most under-rated musicians, Meljoann twists pop, r’n’b, 8-bit and skwee influences into colourful party music. Her debut album, released in 2010, might not have garnered the attention that others in “electronic scene” did but her brand of too-fun-to-care-if-it’s-cool pop is built for small, heaving rooms. Support on the night comes from Withering Zithering, LionFX and Ilex. An androgynous afterparty is planned with Scout Hardcastle and Zoe Wolfe, so keep your eyes peeled for details.

Lone (Twisted Pepper, Saturday, 10.30pm, €12)
Some time in the past three years or so, Lone hit the sugar hard and hasn’t looked back since. His music is the ultimate rush, ramping up tempos, dropping massive, body-shattering beats and topping it off with ultra-colourful fizzy synth melodies. Taking leafs out Zomby and Rustie’s respective books, the producer channels the same energy without sounding particularly like either of them. This night is an Irish launch party for his newest full-length, Galaxy Garden. The album was released by R&S, the label that selected only the best techno back in 80s and 90s, still giving a good home to artists with that hedonistic spirit.

Batman: The Dark Night Rises (Cinemas Nationwide From Friday)
The first screenings happened this morning so if you don’t want to be left out of every conversation for the next week, go have a peek at Christopher Nolan’s latest installment in his revitalization of the Batman franchise. Never before has Bruce Wayne been so dark, so mysterious, so cool. Never has the “goth” in Gotham been so pronounced. Never before have so many people freaked out about a Hollywood superhero film. Go though, it will probably be a very enjoyable few hours. We’d recommend the Lighthouse, because you can catch the Where Were You? exhibition while you’re there.
