Summer is well and truly here so you have no excuse not make the most of the weekend by spending some valuable sun time in Dublin’s various beauty spots. Iveagh Gardens, Stephen’s Green, Killiney Beach, Trinity’s (post-exams) Cricket pitch, Phoenix Park, the list goes on. Go somewhere you haven’t gone before, and then check some of these out.
Awesome, I Fuckin’ Shot That (Saturday, The Lighthouse Cinema, 10.50pm, €6/9)
In tribute to the recently-deceased Adam Yauch (MCA), the Lighthouse cinema is screening the Beastie Boys’ incredible take on the concert film. Shot on 50 cameras handed out to the Madison Square Garden crowd and meticulously edited by Yauch himself, the film is a concert experience like no other, with all the energy and fun of a Beastie Boys hometown gig bursting out of every shot.

LINK Culture Fest (Friday – Sunday, Smithfield, All day, mostly free)
Smithfield will be awash with art this weekend as the inagural LINK Culture fest sets up shop in just about every second building around the square. With visual art exhibitions from Sarah O’Neill, IADT graduates, Marie Farrington and loads more plus live music performances from the European Sensoria Band and the Trinity Orchestra (performing Radiohead’s OK Computer) as well as numerous talks and tours and open galleries, you won’t be bored anyway. Don’t miss the free Afro-Peruvian jazz in St. Michans on Friday night.
TR-One (Saturday, The Twisted Pepper, 11pm, €10)
One of the most vital and exciting electronic music acts in the country launch their new three-track EP on POGO records with a live show in their second home, The Twisted Pepper. With an incredible array of machines making bleeps in the night, TR-One make classic body-rocking music to dance to. Check out the list they made for us of their top 10 Chicago house tracks to get a feel for what to expect. Support on the decks comes from David Kitt, Eoin Callanan and the Bang In the Box crew.
Ships/I Am The Cosmos – Split 7” Launch (Friday, The Sugar Club, 11pm, €10)
Synth Eastwood’s first foray into the world of vinyl is a very classy affair indeed. Bringing together two of Ireland’s finest electro-pop acts in Ships and I Am The Cosmos and sticking them both on a crisp black 7” with gorgeous design by (Goodtime) John Cowhie, that’s not a bad idea at all. What makes it even better is both tracks are monstrously good synth-led sub-disco jams that’ll have you dancing until the the soles of your shoes fall off. There’s not much room for dancing in the Sugar Club, but we’re guessing people will make the most of it.
