Jessie Ware

Glasshouse

[Island Records]

Jessie Ware returns after a break to have her first child with Glasshouse; an album with its sights on the mainstream.

From the off, you can tell this is a different Ware at work: the choruses are big and the edges rounded off.

Sometimes this works – ‘Stay Awake, Wait For Me’ – and sometimes it doesn’t – ‘Your Domino’.

There is real lyrical honesty and trademark strong vocals, but this shot at the stars is lacking the invention to get it there.
