This Weekender is getting deep into the heady tunes this weekend with a threefer of musical treats from across the spectrum that should leave you nice and knackered for Monday morning.
Wave Forza featuring Veronica Vasicka
Odessa Club | Friday 7 February, €10
In a move away from the usual Sunday nights, one of Totally Dublin’s favourite club nights in the city, Forza Italo presents Wave Forza this Friday night in their usual location of the Odessa Club, featuring a DJ set from Veronica Vasicka. Vasicka is the founder of Minimal Wave Records, who put specialize in vinyl releases of just the kind of music you’d expect from a record company with a name like that: sleek, nasty, minimal electro and new wave jams that fit right in with that Forza Italo vibe we all love. Vasicka runs a DJ slot of East Village Radio where she salvages lost classics that often make up the releases on Minimal Wave. Also on the night will be DJ sets from Simon Conway from Forza Italo and fellow obscurities rescuer Darren McCreesh. Check out some sweet Vasicka mixes below also.

Girl Band
Whelans | Saturday 8 February, €10, 8pm
Local roustabouts Girl Band’s terrifyingly brilliant new single Lawman is an abrasive-as-they-come slab of skronking no-wave build on nasty stabs of dirtily distorted bass and guitar while singer Dara Kiely yelps in the middle distance. It hints at James Chance and the Contortions, really early Dismemberment Plan, even a hint of krautrock. In other words, it’s fan-bloody-tastic. The lads celebrate the release with a gig in Whelans with fellow sonic messers Simon Bird and Jetsetter. Promises to be a blistering and battering affair and the start of a big year for the Girl boys.

Moderat
Vicar Street | Sunday 9 February, €27 + booking fee
The dynamic duo of Modeselektor and Apparat have been bumped up from the Button Factory to Vicar Street after their October date was cancelled due to Sascha Ring (Apparat) sustaining multiple leg fractures after a motorcycle accident in Berlin. Thankfully, Ring is back on form and will be joining fellow-Berlin heavyweights Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary (Modeselektor) to play some of the outstanding tracks from their second full-length album *Moderat II* with a backdrop of visuals from their recent music video producer Pfadfinderei. Expect a cracking gig that’s all the better for the wait.
