Laughter, legacy and a room full of love… Dundalk is getting the laughs in on St Brigid’s Day with a special charity comedy night celebrating the life and legacy of the late, great Brenda Woods Finegan.
Taking place on February 1st at 8pm in the Imperial Hotel, the show brings comedians from across Ireland back to Brenda’s hometown for an evening that’s big on heart, humour and community.
A much-loved performer, teacher and tireless champion of women in comedy, Brenda was known for creating welcoming spaces where new voices could thrive.

Show organiser Anthony Ferns, who ran Dublin’s famous Battle of the Axe comedy and open mic show for 30 years, tells us that in the past Brenda often assisted in producing Battle of the Axe including its online shows on Culture Night.
“Brenda is a huge loss. She was a true friend to our club, performing herself, and always a welcoming, warm presence to both new acts and seasoned performers.”
Headlining the night is Father Ted star Patrick McDonnell, joined by Show Me The Funny winner Ashlee Bentley and a strong supporting line-up. The event will be hosted in his own inimitable style by comedy improviser and artist Ciaran McMahon.
The list of impressive supporting acts include activist and founder of @thesustainablelifeschool Diane O’Connor, Shinanne Higgins of Louth Laughs, Texan comic and author Elizabeth Redmond and Louise O’Toole, who recently returned from a smashing run of her solo show Auntie-Hero at the Edinburgh Fringe.
A really great way to spend St Brigid’s Night, and honour Brenda’s memory not too far up the road from Dublin.
Tickets are currently on sale on Eventbrite. All profits go to local charities.
