Vertigo 67 Film Conference And Festival

The Vertig67 Festival celebrates the collaboration between Alfred Hitchcock and Bernard Herrmann on their masterpiece Vertigo. Kicking off with a special 4k screening of the 1958 classic film Vertigo starring James Stewart and Kim Novak in the Lighthouse Cinema in Dublin on Tuesday 12 August at 8pm, the evening also features a free introductory talk before the movie screening.

Festival proceedings then move over to the Trinity Long Room HUB in Trinity College Dublin from Wednesday 13 – Friday 15 August for three more days of presentations, talks, interviews and panel discussions, including a number of presentations with a focus on the music score of Vertigo written by Bernard Herrmann. Interestingly, Vertigo was not favourably received by either critics or audiences on on its initial release, due to its complicated plot and deviation from the typical Hollywood romantic love story/thriller that Hitchcock had made his name. However, the passage of time has seen Vertigo growing in appeal, and it is now considered one of Hitchcock’s most personal films. The disturbing themes of obsession and casting against type of the traditionally wholesome James Stewart, as a disturbed and obsessed detective trying to fashion Kim Novak into the woman he once loved, has fascinated audiences, filmmakers and academics for decades.
