Wilco

Ode To Joy

[dBpm Records]

On their eleventh album Ode To Joy, Jeff Tweedy’s Wilco are, once again, comfortable in steadily building and unravelling arrangements right from the trudge of percussion which steers opener Bright Leaves, where Tweedy’s wavering and whispered vocals encounter various resplendent instrumental textures.

This constant state of tonal evolution commands the listener. Quiet Amplifier, a standout amongst the eleven tracks, works off a deft looped arrangement which echoes 2002’s Yankee Foxtrot Hotel’s meandering melodic spirit.

A fantastic return from the alt-country troupe.
