Sketchbook: Anna Rave – HEIMAT

Our July cover story looks at the sketchbooks of some of fashion graduates in NCAD with photography by Ruth Connolly.

“For my degree collection I tried to capture HEIMAT – the feeling of home that is not tied down to a defined place. It describes a safe space of belonging. Having lived across the world my inspiration is generated by architectural drawings of various homes, clean lines from housing structures and street maps. My collection communicates comfort, safety and shelter, practicality, wearability and longevity.

Creating my own materials for the garments by bonding fabrics, felting knit, laser cutting and fabric manipulation. By using dead stock fabrics and pure lambswool yarn to build a sustainable collection. The knit pieces embrace the sustainable ethos with a view to future generations; as they will need a HEIMAT too.”
