London Calling – Moylett’s

With Oisin Roger’s brilliant Soho based boozer The Devonshire continuing to blaze a trail, and younger folk across the water opting for pints of the black stuff over pints of mild, it looks like Irish boozers are currently enjoying a moment in the UK’s capital.

In the city’s east end, the borough of Hackney is the location of Moylett’s, a new Irish pub currently drawing crowds in Clapton. In addition to creamy pints and nice vinos by the glass, there’s the added bonus of a hot-tea list for those looking for sustenance beyond the usual non-alcoholic bevvies.

As landlord Rupert Moylett continues to develop Moylett’s as a place that fosters both up and coming music talent and innovative kitchen creatives, food at the pub currently involves Irish Shpice, a pop-up by chefs Garreth Chambers and Hartley Connell.

Centred on that all-encompassing new Irish classic, the Spice Bag, the pop-up runs right through until Paddy’s Day, making it the perfect destination for a flying visit to help the locals celebrate our national holiday.

A far cry from the days of No Blacks, No Dogs, No Irish. Philo would be proud.
