Glendalough Distillery has just launched its latest innovation, timed to coincide with the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
Described as ‘a bold fusion of Irish whiskey tradition and innovation, redefining the Pot Still style’, this new limited-edition expression marries the traditional richness of Pot Still whiskey with the unexpected depth of peat smoke.
Building upon a legacy of re-imagining Irish spirits from the heart of the Wicklow Mountains, Glendalough Pot Still Peated Irish Whiskey has been crafted using both malted and unmalted barley, then distilled in traditional copper pot stills, and aged for over seven years. Beginning its maturation in ex-bourbon American oak casks, it then spends an additional four years in sustainably sourced Virgin Irish Oak from Wicklow’s forests, imparting layers of rich vanilla, toasted oak, and warm spice.
Its makers tell us that the introduction of peated malt adds a bold twist, blending delicate smokiness with the signature spice and creamy texture of Pot Still whiskey, resulting in layers of depth and intrigue, as the signature spice of Pot Still meets a subtle wisp of peat, delivering a rich and memorable sipping experience.
With tasting notes of earthy peat smoke, honeyed malt, green apple, clove, hints of citrus, and toasted oak, the limited-edition release offers a rare opportunity to experience a pioneering expression in Irish whiskey.
Glendalough Pot Still Peated Irish Whiskey will be available for a limited time only at select retailers, including Celtic Whiskey Shop, The Corkscrew Wine & Spirit Merchants, Blackrock Cellar, and other speciality retailers, as well as online via Glendalough’s website, at an RRP of €70.
