On 13 April 1742, in a packed concert hall George Frideric Handel conducted the world premiere of his oratorio Messiah and changed Western music forever.
That event took place just steps from where audiences will gather this Monday, as 120 singers from Our Lady’s Choral Society and invited guests take to the street alongside The Dublin Handelian Orchestra and acclaimed mezzo-soprano Sharon Carty, to perform choruses and arias from Handel’s Messiah.
Supported by Dublin City Council, this invigorating lunchtime concert celebrates the anniversary of one of the most remarkable evenings in musical history. Conducted by Proinnsías Ó Duinn the event features a selection of choruses and arias from Handel’s Messiah.
The event takes place on Fishamble Street, Dublin 8 at 1pm on Monday April 13th. Admission to see and hear Messiah on the very street where it all began is free.
