English-born, but Ireland-shaped, photographer Steve Pyke honours 40-plus years of Ireland’s literary history in his new book, Scribendi: Irish Writers 1982-2025 which saw its physical release earlier this mont

Pyke’s book is part of his work with the Photo Museum and he is the second recipient of the Archive Residency. His portraiture was motivated not just by admiration for the writers’ works but a desire to permanently etch them into the record of literary history in Ireland.

Starting in 1985 with his portrait of filmmaker and writer Neil Jordan, his subjects bridge poetry and prose, alive and dead, and include Kevin Barry, Anne Enright, Seamus Heaney and Mia Gallagher.

To coincide with the book launch 100+ portraits of contemporary Irish writers will be exhibited at the Photo Museum Ireland until November 2nd.
