Drop Everything Again!
The first edition of Drop Everything in May 2012 was described as “sounding like an unattainable utopian fantasy” in these very pages. The free festival of visual art, music, mixology, screenings, talks, and a bit of everything else returns for a second edition. It takes place between May 23rd and 25th on Inis Oirr, Aran Islands after a year off. As with last time around, the festival is completely funded by donations to cover production costs of the event. Some of the venues and events have restricted access so only the more generous funders can be guaranteed access to them but every small donation will maket this fantastical weekend a reality. Guest include some audio-visual fireworks from CLU and art/science gang super/collider.

Totally Chocalatey
The Dylan Hotel is known for being one of Dublin’s leading boutique hotels, but this Easter, they’re upping the luxury levels even further with their Chocolate Afternoon Tea. There’s three varieties, based around dark, milk and white chocolate each with their individual hot drink concoctions, accompanied by macaroons, salted chocolates and a ridiculously tasty chocolate mousse. It’s an absolute treat season and you’ll be thanking the Easter Bunny that he died for all our chocolate. For more info see dylan.ie.
The Beatyard
Last May the Beatyard was just a long weekend of music, food, drink and art. This year however the first installment of the biannual festival has grown to 11 days with 24 venues dotted across the city holding everything from a film competition to a flea market alongside another excellent trademark Bodytonic music line up and collaborations with lots of other great promoters in the city, like Choice Cuts, Hidden Agenda and Jim Carroll’s Banter sessions. And that’s not even mentioning an extremely pleasing visual identity that mines the Dublin’s 1988 Millennium nostalgia for those of us just about old enough to remember it.
Some particular highlights to look forward to include the Homebrew Cup for budding beer brewers to bring their bottles of booze to the outside world on April 27th. On Thursday May 1st legendary garage DJ, DJ EZ will take to the stage in the Twisted Pepper meanwhile on Saturday May 3rd the Big Blue Bus in the Bernard Shaw will host a mini-festival all of it own. The Beatyard looks set to kickstart the summer of 2014 with this city-centric festival. Full details are available at www.the-beatyard.com.
