There are very few days in Dublin’s cultural calendar where music is something you go out and physically seek — but Record Store Day 2026 is one of them.

On Saturday, April 18, the early-morning queues will once again form outside Golden Discs stores across the city, with regulars, collectors and curious newcomers all converging for what has become one of the busiest and most unpredictable days in the retailer’s year. For Golden Discs, Record Store Day is less a sales event and more a moment that brings its loyal customer base together in one place, united by a shared sense that showing up early still matters.

In an age where almost everything is available instantly, Record Store Day continues to trade on scarcity, ritual and the physical experience of music. It’s something Golden Discs has leaned into in recent years, as vinyl sales continue to grow across Ireland and a younger audience begins to engage with the format in a way that feels both new and nostalgic at once.

This year’s release list feels particularly strong, and Golden Discs stores are expecting significant demand across a mix of contemporary releases and classic catalogue titles. There’s an exclusive Record Store Day release from CMAT, while Charli XCX’s Party 4 U arrives as a limited 7″ likely to sell out quickly across Irish stores. PinkPantheress’s Girl Like Me and Olivia Dean’s Live at the BBC reflect the continued crossover between streaming-era artists and vinyl culture, while Ethel Cain’s Inbred,  pressed on vinyl for the first time, is expected to be one of the day’s most sought-after collector pieces.

Across Ireland, more than 30 record shops will take part, but Golden Discs remains one of the most visible access points for Record Store Day, particularly in Dublin, where demand is concentrated. For the retailer, the challenge is always balancing supply and expectation, with many releases produced in limited global runs and only small quantities reaching Irish stores.

Alongside the newer releases, Golden Discs is also anticipating strong interest in heritage artists, with special editions including David Bowie’s Hallo Spaceboy, Fleetwood Mac’s exclusive RSD title and Black Sabbath’s Seventh Star. These releases continue to draw a loyal, older audience, ensuring that the queues outside Golden Discs reflect a genuinely cross-generational mix.

But Record Store Day at Golden Discs isn’t just about what’s on the shelves; it’s also become a key moment for people taking their first step into vinyl. In response, the retailer will be offering a selection of in-store turntable deals across entry-level and mid-range players, aimed at those looking to start (or upgrade) their home setup. It’s a reflection of how the day has evolved, not just about collecting records, but about building a listening experience around them.

For staff and customers alike, the appeal goes beyond the products themselves. It’s in the early starts, the queue etiquette, the conversations between strangers comparing wish lists and sharing updates from inside the store. Golden Discs becomes, for a few hours at least, a focal point for that energy,  a place where the act of buying music feels immediate and shared.

In Dublin, where music culture has always carried a strong sense of identity, Record Store Day has settled into something more than just a retail moment. Through Golden Discs and other participating stores, it has become a shared experience, one that reinforces the continued relevance of physical music in a digital age.

By mid-morning, most of the rarest titles will be gone. By afternoon, the queues outside Golden Discs will have thinned. But for those who made the effort and managed to secure what they came for, the appeal of Record Store Day remains unchanged: a reminder that sometimes, the best way to experience music is to go out and find it.
