Hot on the heels of the success of the recent House of Guinness series on Netflix comes an opportunity to discover the real story of Arthur Guinness courtesy of a special tour organised by Tom Young, owner of the Liberty Belle Pub in Francis Street, and the accomplished writer and local historian Reg McCabe.
The day-long driving tour takes in a number of key places around Dublin and Kildare that remain closely associated with Arthur Guinness, his wider family and his social circle, including Iveagh House, the Phoenix Park, and Castletown House in Celbridge.
There’s also a chance to visit the Guinness Museum at Ardlough and see the final resting place of Arthur Guinness and his wife Olivia in Oughterard, while enjoying the views of some gorgeous Irish countryside along the way.

While the tour’s main focus will be on Arthur’s character and legacy as a brewer, businessman, family man and property owner, the tour organisers will also be providing some fascinating insights into the wider cultural landscape of 18th century Dublin.
Day trippers can expect a focus on the civic spaces, buildings, monuments and public sculptures with which the famous brewer would have been familiar, many of which would have been new additions to the city during his lifetime.
The tour will conclude back at The Liberty Belle, where participants will get to digest the day’s happenings over some nice refreshments, a pint of the black stuff, and a chance to swap stories with the locals.
