The East Asia Film Festival Ireland is back for its tenth edition, landing at the Irish Film Institute from March 19–22 with a beautifully curated programme that proves, once again, why EAFFI is one of the city’s most quietly essential festivals.
This anniversary edition casts a wide, thoughtful net across China, Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore, spotlighting independent filmmakers exploring identity, migration, memory and belonging.
Opening night brings the Irish premiere of Shanghai Daughter, with director Agnis Shen Zhongmin in attendance for a post-screening Q&A — always a festival highlight.

Hong Kong cinema gets a well-deserved moment in the spotlight, with rare 4K restorations of classics including The Killer, Peter Yung’s gritty The System, and the intoxicating noir musical The Wild, Wild Rose.
Add in contemporary gems like Lucky Lu, Two Seasons, Two Strangers and Hong Sangsoo’s latest Berlinale selection, and you’ve got a line-up that balances heritage with the new.
Beyond the screen, expect talks, introductions and thoughtful conversations that deepen the experience. As the programme so eloquently demonstrates, this is one festival that rewards curiosity, and then some.
East Asia Film Festival Ireland is at the Irish Film Institute from Thursday March 19th to Sunday March 22nd.
