Those ignoring the digital detox movement will most likely have noticed that fibre is currently having a moment, as the social media #Fibremaxxing trend helps put the old-school plant-based carbohydrates back in the spotlight.

With sales of fibre-rich favourites like Medjool dates on the rise, wellness retailer Holland & Barrett is tapping into the zeitgeist for food-first fixes over supplements, with the launch of a new High Fibre food range developed by chefs and nutritionists across its 70 Irish stores.

Enter seed toppers, crispbreads, baking mixes and grab-and-go snacks designed to slot effortlessly into everyday meals. New products include their High Fibre 5 Seed Bar, which comes packed with sunflower, pumpkin, flax, chia, sesame seeds and cranberries, adding up to an impressive 3.6g of fibre per bar.

They tell us that the new range is all about small swaps with big benefits, making it easier to sneak more fibre into breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

All of which is good news for the nation’s guts, with recent research indicating that over 80% of Irish adults aren’t hitting their daily fibre targets.

With gut health proving a challenge for so many, file this one under food that loves you back.
