SUMMARY:M. Ward
DESCRIPTION:Yes\, it’s 14 years M.Ward released Post-War with its achingly beautiful opener Poison Cup. That was the one which flipped the switch here but his 2020 releases Migration Stories actually marks his tenth album release. Drawing on personal narratives and liminal places\, Ward is the journeyman of his stories\, whether dueting alongside Zooey Deschanel as She & Him\, to studio work with Jenny Lewis\, to teaming up with Conor Oberst. “I love playing the alchemist who gets to combine elements that shouldn’t go together\, but every once in a while they do and it’s magic.” he says. He also recently released Think of Spring\, an album of Billie Holiday covers. \nphoto credit: Renata Steiner

SUMMARY:HONEYPOT 001: Spread Your Wings
DESCRIPTION:Borne out of a desire to bring more diversity to Dublin’s dancefloors by supporting female\, non-binary and LGBTQ+ DJs\, HONEYPOT parties will play electronic music across different genres and styles depending on the night. \nOn their door policy\, founders Emma Murphy and Kerry Mahony say: “HONEYPOT operates on an ethos of inclusivity\, not exclusivity. That means that while it’s primarily a night for gay and queer women\, we want everyone to feel welcome\, including allies or people who are questioning. We want to create a new space for girls\, gays\, queer people and everyone in between to dance\, be free and have fun. Because of that\, we ask everyone Nound to follow our values of kindness\, respect and community.” \nThe launch party\, named HONEYPOT 001: Spread Your Wings\, will be headlined by Mercorn. The Dublin native is a founding member of Skin&Blister Collective and a champion for diversity in Dublin nightlife\, with expertise across 90’s trance\, acid and progressive house. \nOpening the party is the co-founder of HONEYPOT\, Rhyzine. The Dublin-based DJ will be playing percussive and high-energy tunes to warm up the partygoers. \n Mercorn Rhyzine \nOn their opening night\, Emma and Kerry say: “Throughout our six years living in Dublin\, we’ve always noticed a gap in electronic nights ran by and for gay women. We want HONEYPOT to bring the community together in the best way we know how\, by dancing. We are so excited to throw our launch party at The Sound House\, a venue known for supporting brilliant queer nights.” \nhttps://soundcloud.com/honeypot_club \n

SUMMARY:View from the Sea
DESCRIPTION:Giita Hammond’s exhibition View from the Sea is a photographic/video project Giita made during the first year and a half of Covid\, while swimming in the sea at the 40ft and Sandycove. In a time of restrictions\, swimming in the sea with her three friends and documenting her swims became the antidote; freedom and an abandonment of rules. The connection Giita had with the women she swam with was vital to the project and to her mental health during this time. View from the sea includes videos\, seascapes and portraits of the women she swam with.\n\n\n\nRuns until July 27

SUMMARY:Analog Rhythms - A Celebration of Dublin Club Culture
DESCRIPTION:Hot off the day-lo heels of Throw Away book which celebrated club culture of yore\, comes Analog Rhythms which also taps into the formative years of clubbing in Dublin\, from the rave dens of Sides and The Asylum\, via the stylish dance floors of The Pod and The Kitchen\, through to the ‘big room energy’ of the Temple Theatre and RedBox. Hosted by 909originals and Bodytonic\, Analog Rhythms will showcase that time and place through photos\, flyers\, videos and tales from the dance floor.

SUMMARY:Night for Emmy
DESCRIPTION:Emmy Shigeta is a Japanese born\, Dublin based DJ and all round wonderful person. She has touched the lives of so many people in Dublin\, and throughout the rest of the country with her positivity\, kindness\, and love of all things Ireland. She has also brought together diverse groups of people and become an integral part of the Dublin musical scene. Emmy has injected life into Dublin light life at a time when it has been on life support\, and she did so for no reason other than her love of Dublin. She has introduced so many people from different communities and groups who may not have met otherwise\, and inspired others to create and try to make Dublin a better place culturally. In recent times and throughout our history\, we have had people leave our country in droves for greener pastures\, but in Emmy’s case\, she has come to Ireland because to her\, Ireland’s culture and people are the greenest pastures she could dream of. \nUnfortunately\, Emmy was only allowed to remain in Ireland on her College Visa\, which is due to expire soon. During her time here\, she worked with The Lighthouse Cinema. The Lighthouse Cinema had never previously made a work permit application for an employee\, but given her incredibly character\, work ethic\, and passion for film\, they made an exception. Unfortunately\, the Irish Government has declined this application\, and Emmy will have to leave Ireland in the near future. \nhttps://linktr.ee/emmy.dublinnuskool

SUMMARY:Mannequin Pussy
DESCRIPTION:Make way for a debut Dublin show by this Philadelphian punk and indie rock outfit. With two albums Romantic and Patience along with recent EP Perfect\, expect gloriously trashing sounds\, jagged riffs and high voltage energy. There might even be a mosh mo on tracks like Perfect and Pigs and Pigs. Anger can still be an energy. Support comes from North Dublin art-punk posse Girlfriend. \n \n

SUMMARY:Diana Ross
DESCRIPTION:Fresh from stints at the Platinum Jubilee and the Sunday Legends slot at Glasto\, Ross rolls into town with her Thank U Tour. Like a number of acts such as Elton John\, Paul McCartney and now Ross\, this is the end of their live era. A Motown titan who started back in the ‘60s with the Supremes\, hitting a solo run in the ‘70s before her Chic-enabled reinvention during disco’s heyday in the early ‘80s before\, erm\, tapering off if you discount the little flurry of Chain Reaction. Thank You\, her 25th studio album and first in 15 years\, brings in Jack Antonoff on production duties and has been mostly met with a shrug of gratitude. One is expecting this live show to be a smooth celebration of an icon\, ably assisted by a strong backing band and singers\, allowing the 78-year-old to draw breath on occasion and say ‘Thank U’ to us.

SUMMARY:Michael Kiwanuka + Gabriels
DESCRIPTION:Nestled in between the actual heap of big gigs on comes this true diamond and a support you really need to catch. Kiwanuka is a soul brother who is finally getting to tour his Mercury prize-winning and Grammy nominated album. A lush\, immersive album of politicised soul\, it examined themes of faith\, self-doubt and civil rights with samples from the late civil rights leader and activist John Lewis. The Londoner of Ugandan origin will be bringing lush orchestrations and band crescendos in tow. And do not miss his support in the form of Gabriels who released two spell-blindingly brilliant EPs last year in the shape of Love and Hate in a Different Time and Bloodline. This bears all the hallmarks of a wonderful double-bill. Time is a healer. \nphoto: Suki Dhanda for Observer New Review \n \n  \n  \n \nTrinity College\, Monday June 27\, €54.85

SUMMARY:Paul Hughes - Bastard Blue
DESCRIPTION:“For a long time I struggled with blue\, for me it was the colour of logic\, order\, organisation. And while I’ve nothing against logic\, it’s never been how I work. My process doesn’t do order\, my paintings don’t start with a destination. Instead they’re born in the chaos of the doing\, painted on the ground\, they evolve\, they mutate\, depending on the light that day\, the music I’m listening to\, as I move in constant motion around them. And that wasn’t blue. \nAnd then\, like the lover in a Charlotte Bronte or Jane Austen story that the protagonist first hates but then loves\, blue revealed itself. I started surrounded by the wild elemental scapes of land\, sea and sky\, between the Beara and the Iveragh on the Atlantic-lashed coasts near Kenmare. There\, looking at its blues\, sometimes for days on end\, I saw blue wasn’t order or calm\, it was wild\, seductive\, raw\, ungrounded. That it wasn’t one shade\, it was a million. That far from being the reassuring presence of the paintbox\, was the maddest\, craziest\, bastard there was. That like the sirens of Greek mythology\, could change from softness to malevolence in a split second. \nAnd that’s what I wanted to paint.” \n– Paul Hughes

SUMMARY:Catherine Greene - Conspiracy
DESCRIPTION:This solo exhibition of new sculptures will feature 15 jesmonite heads depicting two elements coming together – the raven and the human. “The raven pieces should not be viewed as raven overwhelming the human form\,” says sculptor Catherine Greene. “They could be construed as symbiosis of man and animal or it can be read as man elevating himself above his quotient existence. Ravens are harbingers of knowledge\, of death\, of transformation. They are portals into another place. My idea was to make work that suggests a blend and coming together of human with bird where it becomes impossible to disconnect the two entities. Many of the works are titled Conspiracy because that is the term for a group of ravens.”  \nRuns until May 27\, closed on Saturday and Sunday.

SUMMARY:An Octoroon
DESCRIPTION:Irish playwright\, Dion Boucicault’s wrote The Octoroon in 1859. Adapting Thomas Mayne Reid‘s 1856 novel about the residents of a Louisiana plantation\, it sparked debates about the abolition of slavery and the role of theatre in politics. In 2014\, playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins gave it a subversive contemporary reboot\, fashioning what the New York Times called “the most eloquent statement on race in America today.” This whipsmart production of An Octoroon is laced with humour and razor-sharp commentary on race and society\, ably anchored by some stellar cast performances. It is the sort 0f boat pushing programming we’ve been hankering for from our national theatre for some time. \nuntil May 14 with 2pm matinees on Saturday
