SUMMARY:Sharú
DESCRIPTION:Sharú is a group exhibition bringing together the work of ten artists. The exhibition reflects a multicultural and multinational group of artists working in Ireland today. Together they present painting drawing sculpture and photography that explore ideas of identity roots and ongoing transformation. \nAt the heart of Sharú is the belief that the artist is someone who transcends. From the first spark of an idea through engagement with materials and into the final act of making the work the everyday practice of art becomes an act of transformation. These processes lift material objects into a deeper space of meaning while also inviting moments of reflection and growth for both the artist and the viewer. \nWork from the following artists will be featured in the exhibition: Ishmael Claxton\, Nadia Dev\, Alicia Donnan\, Molly Buí Hennessy\, Helen Kirk\, Gabriel Lobo\, Nicole Manning\,  Nyah  O’Connor\, Brady Izquierdo Rodriguez\, and Eva Vitkute.  \nThe opening event takes place at TØN on January 15th from 6pm-9pm.  \nThe exhibition runs at at TØN Gallery until Sunday Feb 1st.The gallery is open from 12pm to 4pm\, Thursday to Sunday.

SUMMARY:First Fortnight X IFI
DESCRIPTION:The IFI once again partners with First Fortnight for two exciting screenings. Cinema goers will be treated to a preview of If I Had Legs I’d Kick You the extraordinary second feature by Mary Bronstein\, starring Rose Byrne\, and The Low Road\, by Stephen Mulhearn\, followed by a Q&A. \nIf I Had Legs I’d Kick You has been described as a white-knuckle ride into the psyche of a woman on the brink of despair\, careering towards a point of crisis. \n \nMeanwhile\, Mulhearn’s fascinating feature about transformational grief tells the story of a woman who embarks on a journey from the streets of Glasgow to the breath-taking scenery of the Scottish Highlands\, following the suicide of a friend. \nFirst Fortnight is a multidisciplinary arts festival which creatively treats the issue of mental health awareness. \nThe Irish Film Institute\, Thursday\, 15 – 17 Jan 2026. SUMMARY:Urban Myth
DESCRIPTION:This month sees Kevin Kavanagh present ‘Urban Myth’\, a group exhibition of photography by gallery and invited artists. These artists demonstrate the changing role of photographs in our digital world. No longer just records of the real or of a moment in time\, they have become the basis of our modern folklore. Where once we gathered round the fire to share stories\, now we pass images from screen to screen. For all the solidity of the phone in our hand\, these images flow by in a turbulent stream. \nAs urban myths\, this folklore permeates every aspect of our daily lives. They are an articulation of our fears and insecurities\, an attempt to put order on an increasingly chaotic world\, and a measure of the society we think we live in. As short videos and memes\, they are the driving force behind much social media. Increasingly\, they dictate the direction of populist politics and of society itself. \nIn ‘Urban Myth’ the photographers become storytellers. The stories they tell grapple with the underlying drivers of our new digital urban lives. They reflect our desires and our fears in a world of isolated individuals cut off from their natural roots and struggling with the unknown. \nAs information becomes less reliable\, the perceived unknown becomes more threatening. There may be monsters here\, but what are they?… \nExtract from an accompanying text written by Martin Shiels.  \nUrban Myth opens at Kevin Kavanagh Gallery on Thursday 8th January from 6pm\, featuring work from artists:\nMichael Boran | Elaine Byrne | Gary Coyle | Dragana Jurišić | Sean Lynch | Scott Nokia | Adrian O’Carroll | Izabela Szczutkowska \nThe exhibition runs from 8th January – 7th February 2026. The gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday 11am – 5pm

SUMMARY:Biophilia Tours At The National Botanic Gardens\, Dublin

SUMMARY:Lucid Dreaming\, dlr Open Exhibition 2025
DESCRIPTION:‘Art is a crystallisation of fantasy.  Of our fevered desires\, flippant whims and untold fears. It – like the ancient practice of lucid dreaming – is difficult to master. Children are more adept at both these things than adults.  The subconscious hasn’t been walled off yet by the psychological hurdles adolescence brings.  The skill of the artist is the skill of the lucid dreamer: that of control.  To temper the base air of the psyche to some sort of distilled resolution’.  – Davey Moor \nDún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is currently showing Lucid Dreaming\, dlr Open Exhibition of visual art by artists who have studied in\, are originally from\, or are living or working in the County. Artists were invited to submit work on the theme of Lucid Dreaming. The exhibition was selected and curated by Royal Hibernian Academy Curator\, Davey Moor\, through an open submission process. Moor has worked as a curator since 2004 in a range of independent and institutional roles\, including Monster Truck\, 2008-2014.  He was previously a Director of Kevin Kavanagh Gallery 2008-2010 and Collections Manager and Registrar at the Irish State Art Collection at the OPW from 2010-2024. \nAlongside the exhibition\, dlr Arts Office is also running a programme of accompanying talks\, workshops and events. This offers many opportunities for people of all ages to interact with the gallery in different ways\, learning about and trying out different art-making techniques. \nFor further details\, visit the website:  dlrcoco.ie/arts \nImage credit: Eimear Carvill\, Tranquility 1\, 2025 \nLucid Dreaming\, Selected and Curated by Davey Moor\, Curator\, Royal Hibernian Academy\, Dublin runs at dlr Lexicon from 7 December 2025 – 15 February 2026

SUMMARY:Football as Never Before - A Celebration of George Best
DESCRIPTION:“Football is working-class ballet. It’s an experience of enchantment. For an hour and a half\, a different order of time unfolds and one submits oneself to it. A football game is a temporal rupture with the routine of the everyday: ecstatic\, evanescent and\, most importantly\, shared. At its best\, football is about shifts in the intensity of experience. At times\, it’s like Spinoza on maximizing intensities of existence. At other times\, it’s more like Beckett’s Godot\, where nothing happens twice.” – Simon Critchley \nFOOTBALL AS NEVER BEFORE (Fußball wie noch nie) – 1970 I Hellmuth Costard I Germany I 105mins –  is legendary among soccer aficionados and one of the great works of post-WWII German cinema. \nThis hypnotic portrait of Man U legend George Best trains multiple cameras on the revered footballer over the complete course of a match against Coventry City. Made at the height of Best’s fame and tabloid notoriety\, Costard’s film focuses insistently on Best—warming up\, looking restless and bored\, waiting tactically to unleash his genius—rather than the on-pitch action to arrive at a sublime and revealing rumination on celebrity and a tantalizing glimpse of the man behind the myth. \nIt’s hard to imagine a filmmaker focusing on a single player for an entire game or match\, but that’s just what German filmmaker Hellmuth Costard did in 1970 – filmed Manchester United star George Best for an entire match (long before British artist Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno made their 2006 variant Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait). \nThis month sees the film presented at The National Concert Hall with a live musical accompaniment created by Matthew Nolan and Bryan O’Connell in collaboration with some of the finest musicians from the contemporary music scene in Ireland. This special event marks the 20th anniversary of Best’s passing. Introduced by Connell Vaughan & Mick O’Hara\, School of Art and Design\, at TU Dublin. \nPresented with the support of Bohemians F.C. and ITV Sport. Presented by Homebeat in association with NCH \nTickets here.

SUMMARY:Stephanie Deady - Emotional Calculus
DESCRIPTION:“Thrilling\, quicksilver arrangements of fierce movement\, Deady’s new paintings are also\, and simultaneously\, models of balance\, poise and restraint: amalgams of sensibility and sense\, feeling and thought. With their intricate\, concentric patterning and vigorous\, rhythmic pulse\, they relate metaphorically to the currency of daily life\, the colour of moods and feelings and the dynamics of human relationships. \nOccupying a space free from the rules of naturalistic representation\, the paintings fuse inner and outer worlds\, and allow for a longer\, considered view over time. The energies of the compositions are in most cases generated by two adjoining figures\, and the way they create and are in turn shaped by the traffic of interaction between them. \nPowerful internal currents animate each of them\, whole worlds of feeling. As with the artist’s earlier Measure for Measure works\, this entails a powerful intimation of bodily presence and action: a choreography of stance\, attitude\, movement\, gesture\, nuance – and vision. Colour\, sparing yet intense\, sets the temperature of the mood. Spatially\, we are in a zone as expansive as a biblical desert\, and as abstract\, in which we try to orient ourselves.” –  Aidan Dunne \nOpening Thursday 20th November at 6pm\, Stephanie Deady – Emotional Calculus runs at The Kevin Kavanagh Gallery from Thursday November 20th – Saturday December 20th 2025 \nFeature Image: Stephanie Deady\, Emotional Calculus\, oil on birch plywood\, 26 x 35.5 cm\, 2025
