SUMMARY:The Dublin Jazz Co-op Presents: Laoise Leahy & Johnny Taylor
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed vocalist and composer Laoise Leahy presents Breathe In & Let Go\, a special summer afternoon concert performed with master pianist Johnny Taylor in the intimate Cobblestone venue. \n\n\n\nA native of Cork and a contemporary voice lecturer at MTU Cork School of Music\,  Laoise is known for her rich\, soulful tone and her instinctive\, fearless approach to  improvisation. Her music moves fluidly between jazz\, soul\, folk and contemporary  sound worlds\, guided by a deep curiosity about connection\, presence and what it  means to be human. \nFor this performance\, she is joined by her longtime collaborator Johnny Taylor on piano\, bringing an intuitive musical chemistry and a shared sensitivity to space\, texture and groove. \nThe music for this concert draws from her recently released EP ‘Breathe In & Let  Go’ alongside reimagined\, revered jazz tunes\, newly composed songs and open  improvisations. Inspired by breath\, nature\, time and the inner rhythms of life\, the  set unfolds gently – at times grounded and earthy\, at others expansive\, soaring and searching – always leaving room in the moment for the unexpected. \nBreathe In & Let Go is an invitation to pause in the middle of the day\, to listen  deeply\, to soften and allow the music to carry you for a while. Intimate\, reflective  and quietly powerful\, this lunchtime concert offers a nourishing and transporting  moment shared in one of Dublin’s most cherished live music spaces. \nLaoise Leahy – Vocals Johnny Taylor – Piano\, Live in The BackRoom at The Cobblestone\, 3.00pm on Sunday May 31st 2026. \n“Laoise Leahy’s must-hear ambient-jazz EP\, ‘Breathe In & Let Go‘ is fuelled by intelligent arrangements\, stunning performances and magnetic melodies. One thing is for sure\, ‘Breathe In & Let Go‘ is a contemporary jazz EP that will stand the test of time….”  VFM-music blog \n“Great Jazz Voice on Blue” Carl Corcoran – Lyric FM (Blue of the Night) \n“It may be some of the finest work by an Irish jazz artist in the last ten years. She is going to blow the scene out of the water…”  BBC Jazzworld – Linley Hamilton

SUMMARY:Three Shades of Haydn - Carolinn Widmann Plays Haydn With The ICO
DESCRIPTION:Irish Chamber Orchestra is known for its fresh angles and inventive programming\, and the Brothers Haydn is exactly the kind of sideways glance at repertoire ICO does best. This Haydn journey can be enjoyed in all its glory at the Whyte Recital Hall\, RIAM\, Dublin on May 15th. \nIn this concert\, Classical style unfolds in real time. Michael Haydn’s Symphony in D major opens in sunshine\, warm and radiant. Joseph Haydn’s Violin Concerto in G major is more personal and playful\, full of sparkle\, charm and intimate conversation between Violinist Carolin Widmannand orchestra. Haydnsurprises us as his Symphony No. 45 “Farewell”steps into darker\, more restless territory\, becoming dramatic\, daring\, and unexpectedly moving. What begins in light gradually reveals deeper shadows\, ending not with grandeur but with one of the most touching gestures in all music. \nNo stranger to ICO audiences\, violinist Carolin Widmann brings rare clarity\, intelligence\, and a sense of discovery. Her lean\, luminous tone suits Haydn perfectly. Every phrase is shaped with intention\, every gesture sparkles with wit and colour. She draws listeners from the warmth of Michael Haydn to the emotional intensity of Joseph’s “Farewell” Symphony\, setting the stage for the drama that follows. \n \nOverall\, Brothers Haydn is a journey through three shades of the Classical spirit – light and shadow\, charm and tension\, public brilliance\, and private emotion. It’s a chance to hear familiar works reframed\, and lesser-known music revealed in all its beauty. \nWidmann & ICO play at the Whyte Recital Hall\, RIAM\, Dublin at 7.30pm on May 15th. Tickets here. \nThanks to the valued support of The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon\, Irish Chamber Orchestra continues to delight\, surprise\, and inspire audiences. Based at the University of Limerick\, ICO performs nationally and internationally\, where every concert is an invitation to connect with the music\, the artists\, and each other. \nBrothers Haydn \nIrish Chamber Orchestra Carolin Widmann Director/Violin \nMichael Haydn Symphony\, MH 287 (P.43)\, D major \nJoseph Haydn Violin Concerto in G Major Hob. This year\, CDD8 strives to uncover the historical threads that envelop Dublin 8 – from the curious and the captivating\, to the sentimental and moving – and understand what it means for us to reshape them in our shared contemporary psyche.  \nCentral themes include exploring the Songlines of the City – uncovering pathways across the landscape that carry stories – and commemorating the 300th anniversary of Jonathan Swift’s novel ‘Gulliver’s Travels’\, one of the most enduring and influential works of satire in literary history.   \nShowcases highlighting the localised practices of storytelling and spoken-word poetry will take place on both the Saturday and Sunday in the National Stadium. \n \nThese events will feature a competitive twist and a callback to Dan Donnelly\, one of Dublin’s most renowned sporting celebrities of the nineteenth century\, who had surprisingly strong connections to Dublin 8. The much anticipated event celebrating Dublin’s boxing legends includes a performance by Damien Dempsey at The National Stadium on Saturday\, May 9th. \nElsewhere\, Tom Dunne\, Fiachna O’Braonáin and Alan Connor are set to perform in the Church of St. Catherine & St. James on Wednesday May 6th\, followed by ‘Remembering Ronnie’ performed by singer Phelim Drew on Thursday May 7th. Kerry pop-folk band Simple Things is in action on Friday May 8th\, while Friday\, May 8th\, also sees singer and actress Camille O’Sullivan live at Christ Church Cathedral. \n \nIn addition\, the Late in D8 after dark series will see a showcase of BIMM College graduates alongside late night parties taking place in venues across the district. The majority of these events are free to attend. \nThe Culture Date with Dublin 8 Festival will take place from Monday May 4th – Sunday May 10th. For details\, see culturedatewithdublin8.ie \nCulture Date with Dublin 8 is an initiative led by the Dublin City Council South Central Area and Curator Grace McEvoy in collaboration with programme partners.

SUMMARY:The Beekeeper of Aleppo
DESCRIPTION:“I was scared of the bees at first\, but now\, they make me feel alive. They are like a society in complete harmony with itself. Not like people at all\, but maybe what people have the potential to be’” \nFollowing its acclaimed world premiere at Nottingham Playhouse in 2023\, this restaging of The Beekeeper of Aleppo\, adapted by Nesrin Alrefaai and Matthew Spangler\, opened at Nottingham Playhouse on 7 February before embarking on this UK and Ireland Tour. Speaking about the new production Anthony Almeida\, Director\, said\, “What a thrill to restage this sweeping story with an electric new cast. Christy Lefteri’s sensational novel is a clarion call to the everyday – but extraordinary – lives of people who seek a better tomorrow. ‘Beekeeper’ is a play full of heart\, wit and hardship – and to share these vivid characters with audiences nationwide in 2026 feels ever-more urgent. I’m truly excited for how this talented\, soulful company of actors will light up the stage.” \nThe Beekeeper of Aleppo will play the Gaiety Theatre Dublin as the only Irish dates on its upcoming UK and Ireland tour. Tickets for the Gaiety dates\, 28 April – 2 May\, are on sale now on ticketmaster.ie or in person at the Gaiety Theatre Box Office South King Street\, Dublin 2.  The Box Office is open Mon – Fri 11pm – 6pm. Shows will take place during the evening at 7.30pm with Matinees at 2.30pm on 29 April and 2 May. \nFor more information visit gaietytheatre.ie

SUMMARY:Kevin McAleenan - Moment
DESCRIPTION:“Moments arrive unannounced. In the rise of a hill\, the whiteness of a gable end\, the curve of a country road… I know it has arrived when I’m caught in that moment.” \nDrawing from everyday moments that beckon him to stillness and reflection\, artist Kevin McAleenan’s paintings veer between realism and abstraction\, centred thematically around Irish landscapes. Carefully balanced blocks of colour and strong vertical lines provide structure and integrity\, while gentle brushstrokes and tonal shifts give the works movement. \nMcAleenan has previously exhibited artworks at The Market Place Theatre and Arts Centre in Armagh. He has also exhibited and sold internationally in cities such as New York\, Singapore and Hong Kong. Now he presents this fascinating solo exhibition at Sol Art Gallery. \nThis exhibition brings together a new body of work in which McAleenan reengages with the quiet moments that shape everyday experience. The exhibition launches on Thursday\, the 23rd of April.   \nThe gallery is open Mon – Sat\, 10.30am to 5.30pm \nFor more information\, see solart.ie   \nFeature Image – Kevin McAleenan\, Drifting

SUMMARY:Live Blues and Jazz at Arthur’s Pub\, Dublin - Julyo
DESCRIPTION:Based in Ireland\, GRAMMY-nominated musician\, producer\, and songwriter Julyo is at Arthur’s Blues Bar in Dublin 8 this March\, in an intimate contemporary blues live performance\, featuring original material from his recent work\, presented in a close-room\, small-venue setting.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Julyo \nJulyo is an GRAMMY®-Nominated musician and producer whose work is rooted in blues\, shaped by jazz phrasing\, and influenced by Mediterranean melodic sensibilities. His music emphasizes tone\, restraint\, and narrative flow\, favouring feel and space over technical display. Whether performing solo or with an ensemble\, the focus remains on musical conversation and emotional clarity. \nBased in Ireland\, Julyo has developed a reputation for live performances that prioritise listening-room dynamics rather than high-volume presentation. His approach draws from traditional blues language while remaining contemporary in form\, allowing room for improvisation and interaction between musicians. The result is a sound that feels grounded and personal rather than retro or stylised. \nIn recent years\, Julyo’s work has included studio recordings and international collaborations\, alongside a consistent presence on the live circuit. His performances are often described as intimate and atmospheric\, shaped as much by the room and the audience as by the material itself. \n\nJulyo performs at Arthur’s Pub 28 Thomas Street\, Dublin 8 on Thursday\, 12 March 2026\nDoors: 7:30pm | Show: 8:30pm\n\n\nTickets: €18 via Eventbrite\n\nTo learn more about Julyo’s work see his social media channels:\n\nInstagram instagram.com/JulyoOfficial \nYouTube youtube.com/@Julyo  \nOfficial Website JulyoMusic.com

SUMMARY:Revolve Featuring: Telekura & iNNUENDO
DESCRIPTION:The Grand Social‘s late night Thursday showcase club night for new Irish talent hits pay dirt as the brilliant Telekura join forces with iNNUENDO for a fascinating double header. Telekura was named after a Japanese telephone-based dating service and blends maximalist synths and velvety vocals to create 90s-tinged pop songs with a whiff of psychedelia. The band’s core consists of seasoned musicians: Rachel\, a Malaysian-born singer/songwriter and former front-person of Lost Weekend\, and Stephen\, a songwriter who founded Irish indie quartet We Should Be Dead\, with both finding their perfect pop groove within the new outfit. \nDrawing inspiration from alt and art-rock icons like Radiohead\, Kate Bush\, and David Bowie\, iNNUENDO weaves in the melodic charm of indie and dance favourites like The Strokes and LCD Soundsystem. \nThe Grand Social \nThursday Feb 12th\, Doors: 10pm. \nthegrandsocial.ie
