SUMMARY:The Beekeeper of Aleppo
DESCRIPTION:“I was scared of the bees at first\, but now\, they make me feel alive. They are like a society in complete harmony with itself. Not like people at all\, but maybe what people have the potential to be’” \nFollowing its acclaimed world premiere at Nottingham Playhouse in 2023\, this restaging of The Beekeeper of Aleppo\, adapted by Nesrin Alrefaai and Matthew Spangler\, opened at Nottingham Playhouse on 7 February before embarking on this UK and Ireland Tour. Speaking about the new production Anthony Almeida\, Director\, said\, “What a thrill to restage this sweeping story with an electric new cast. Christy Lefteri’s sensational novel is a clarion call to the everyday – but extraordinary – lives of people who seek a better tomorrow. ‘Beekeeper’ is a play full of heart\, wit and hardship – and to share these vivid characters with audiences nationwide in 2026 feels ever-more urgent. I’m truly excited for how this talented\, soulful company of actors will light up the stage.” \nThe Beekeeper of Aleppo will play the Gaiety Theatre Dublin as the only Irish dates on its upcoming UK and Ireland tour. Tickets for the Gaiety dates\, 28 April – 2 May\, are on sale now on ticketmaster.ie or in person at the Gaiety Theatre Box Office South King Street\, Dublin 2.  The Box Office is open Mon – Fri 11pm – 6pm. Shows will take place during the evening at 7.30pm with Matinees at 2.30pm on 29 April and 2 May. \nFor more information visit gaietytheatre.ie

SUMMARY:Youth's The Season - ?
DESCRIPTION:Part of the Gregory Project at the Abbey Theatre\, a body of work celebrating the legacy of Abbey Theatre co-founder Augusta Gregory\, Youth’s The Season – ? is director Sarah Jane Scaife’s version of Mary Manning’s 1930’s coming of age satire. \nCommenting on the play\, Sarah Jane Scaife said: “When I read Youth’s The Season -? I was really surprised at how different the world it presented felt… It was from a young\, female\, urban perspective. It was funny but in a caustic way\, which felt very recognisable to me. \nThe sense of angst\, boredom and frustration for what society had on offer to young women or young men who didn’t conform to the stereotype of Irish society\, was familiar in a very real way for me. What is so interesting today is recognising that all the same frustrations\, the fears of war\, the anxiety of being different or not fitting in that are experienced by the youth today\, are written into this play which was written by a young woman in her early twenties\, in 1930.” \nScaife’s work on Beckett’s canon has always been enthralling and with a cracking young cast\, including the rising star of Irish drama Ciara Berkeley\, this looks like a winner all round. \nApril 2nd – May 3rd \nabbeytheatre.ie

DESCRIPTION:You know the story. Macbeth is a war hero disturbed in his hour of success by a prophecy that he will one day be ruler. Goaded by his ambitious wife into an act that goes against his deepest instincts of loyalty he unleashes a cycle of violence that plunges the country into terror and dictatorship. \nThis riveting production features Sean Duggan soon to be seen as Dr. Watson in Netflix’s highly anticipated Sherlock & Daughter in the iconic role of Macbeth. He is joined by an exceptional cast including Jim Roche (Vikings: Valhalla The Last Duel Normal People) and Fiona Browne (Vikings: Valhalla Disenchanted) under the direction of acclaimed comedian and actor Liam Hourican (Murder in Successville The Savage Eye Bridget & Eamon). \nThis timeless story of witchcraft murder totalitarianism and how a man becomes a monster is brought to the NOH and Smock Alley by Volta\, Ireland’s most exciting new Shakespearean theatre company. With the rise of authoritarianism around the world\, Shakespeare’s Macbeth feels more relevant than ever. \n \nTICKETS €20 | €16\nBooking here.

SUMMARY:It’s Always Your Bleedin’ Own
DESCRIPTION:Everyone’s saying Dublin is Dead. That Anna Liffey finally choked on her diet of aparthotels\, luxury student accommodation and oat iced flat whites\, before drowning herself in the fountain we dumped her in. \nWell\, everyone is WRONG\, honey! Because BREADLINE brings ‘It’s Always Your Bleedin’ Own’ to Project Arts Centre this December.  A celebration of the beating heart of Dublin’s inner city\, ‘It’s Always Your Bleedin’ Own’ is the unfiltered\, hilarious\, and gut-punching story of the intertwined lives of Kian\, Amber & Dazzy. \nIt’s time to look past the riots and narratives that are sold to you about D1 and come and hear the real story – where resilience meets humour and grit meets glamour.  It’s Always Your Bleedin’ Own is both a cautionary tale and a love letter to Dublin’s North Inner City\, as the play follows the lives of three big characters from Dublin’s North Inner City. Lower the rents\, open the clubs and let them have a bop! \nThe Plot \nAmber Greene’s wedding to Big Mick from the RA is fast approaching and she hasn’t found the most important piece of the puzzle – the guna.  She’s her eyes set on Central Saint Martins graduate and Dublin’s homegrown talent Kian Harris – or “the rough and ready lovechild of John Galliano and Alexander McQueen” as British Vogue have christened him. Kian is apprehensive about being brought back across the Irish Sea and back to his past but Amber is insistent. Will he be able to face his history to deliver a divine gown to D1’s no 1? \nMeanwhile\, Dazzy Whelan is trying to come to terms with the trauma of losing a child and\, at the same time\, jump-start his relationship with Marni Dunleavy (the only jewel in the corned beef faced Dunleavy family crown).  However Dazzy\, like Kian\, has an interest in Amber Greene’s clothes\, but less to do with making them and more to do with taking hers off\, honey. As the plans for Amber’s wedding to Big Mick from the RA get more and more extravagant\, the passion between Amber and Dazzy is also getting more extravagant.  Dazzy thought Amber was just a bit of fun but now\, he thinks he loves her. \nCan D1 handle all the extravagance? \n \nThe Details… \nWritten by TKB\, Directed by Ronan Phelan and starring self-proclaimed townies Ericka Roe\, Lloyd Cooney and Cameron Hogan\, ‘It’s Always Your Bleedin’ Own’ is a tale of family\, friendship\, betrayal\, youth in crisis\, a yearning to escape and a fear of going back.  It’s high octane\, high energy\, high drama and moves at break-neck speed and also acts as a call to get your glad rags on and get out and keep the city lit this Christmas. \nTickets for It’s Always Your Bleedin’ Own at Project Arts Centre range from €16 to €20 and are available now from projectartscentre.ie. \nBreadline in association with Project Arts Centre presents It’s Always Your Bleedin’ Own. Previews Dec 2 & 3rd\, 7.30pm  The play itself runs from Wednesday 4th December 2024 – Saturday December 14th at  7.30pm. Matinee Saturday Dec 14th at 2.30pm\n \nMatinee Note\n \nIt’s Always Your Bleedin’ Own is a standalone show\, but it is also part of the St. May’s Mansions Trilogy that includes Say Nothin’ To No One and Well That’s What I Heard. These plays may live in the same chaotic universe\, but they’re total independent icons. You can see one\, skip another… but wouldn’t it be nice to experience the full trilogy? \nOn Saturday\, 7th December you can go full theatre buff and experience one or both readings of Vol 1 & Vol 2 of the Trilogy before settling in for the show that evening. It’s called making a day of it!  Grab tickets for individual readings for only €10 a pop\, or catch both readings PLUS the production of It’s Always Your Bleedin’ Own for €30. #GerrupHelen

SUMMARY:Trawled – When Adventure Becomes Survival
DESCRIPTION:What begins as a thrilling adventure soon spirals into a harrowing tale of survival against all odds. Trawled is a one-man biographical drama set on a prawn trawler. Twenty-five years after his life-changing experience\, Eoin Ryan brings the wild waves of the Coral Sea\, Australia to life in Smock Alley theatre on November 29th & 30th at 8pm. \n\nSet against the meticulously crafted backdrop of a realistic stage\, Trawled is a sixty-minute tour de force of storytelling that unfolds with the cinematic intensity of a blockbuster film.\n\nDue to the content and subject matter of the play it comes with an over 16’s recommendation. The audience will be taken into a rarely seen world of hard labour and even harder fishermen. Drinking\, fighting\, storms and hungry sharks are part of everyday life. What begins as an adventure\, degenerates quickly into a gripping story to stay alive. \nWritten\, produced\, and acted by Eoin Ryan\, Trawled was first published as a book in 2019. In 2022 Eoin performed the story as a TEDx talk. Eoin’s motivation for going on stage and touring is to share the important universal message ‘to ask for help’.  ‘Having never done anything in theatre before 2023\, I still felt compelled to bring this play and message to life’. \nTrawled was shortlisted for the prestigious PopCorn award at Edinburgh fringe festival. And most recently the book has been shortlisted for the CAP award in nonfiction. \n\nTrawled is making waves. Are you ready to come onboard?

Directed by Claire O’Reilly\, with Toni O’Rourke as the titular Emma\, the production seeks to “rip the bodice of tradition” with a theatrical experience playfully retelling the classic story. O’Reilly also says that “We’re taking a fictional town in a British regency novel\, through an American screwball lens and then setting in the Irish National Theatre with Irish actors\, so it’s amazing”. \nSounds all very Brat like and a heap of fun. SUMMARY:The Holding Bones
DESCRIPTION:In an artist’s studio\, shadows talk\, objects come alive and she draws her very bones to overcome loss and celebrate love and the cycle of life. The Holding Bones lovingly recalls a host of characters – songsters\, storytellers and mischief makers.\n\n\n\nA new original piece from Púca for adults The Holding Bones is a fitting celebration of Samhain\, All Soul’s and The Day of the Dead. At this time of year\, they say\, the veil between our world and the next is at its thinnest. Once we would have set an extra place at the table\, left the door unlocked and lit a candle for each of our loved lost kin at Halloween and remembered our dearly departed throughout the month of November.\n\nSince 1997\, award winning Púca Puppets have been producing shows for adults and children from Ballymun to Bangkok\, in theatres\, canals and other ordinary and extraordinary places. In this new show\, Lawlor\, veteran performer from Púca for nearly 30 years\, counts her ancestors on her very bones and brings them back to life on stage. Set in her studio she draws upon her skills as a puppet maker and visual artist to enrich the tale she has to tell\, as funny as it is deeply moving. In paying playful homage to her ancestors Niamh Lawlor contemplates the purpose of life. Her life.\n\nVital theatrical storytelling invites you to meditate on family\, memory and rituals of grieving and how to embrace the bittersweet turns of the cycle of life.\n\nThis will be among the opening performances of a very personal yet universal show that has been crafted over several years\, assisted by support from The Arts Council\, dlr County Council\, South Dublin Live a South Dublin County Council Arts Office initiative\, Pavilion Studio and the Mermaid Arts Centre\, Draíocht and Civic Theatres. SUMMARY:Children of the Sun
DESCRIPTION:Written by Hilary Fannin\, after Gorky and directed by Lynne Parker\, this Rough Magic and Abbey Theatre co-production comes to the Abbey stage in just three weeks. The story of how “a small family\, their collection of friends and one eccentric stranger distract\, entertain and enrage each other in a moment of crisis.” \nPlaywright Hilary Fannin says: “What value is prediction when the writing is splashed on the wall? Children of the Sun\, after Maxim Gorky’s 1905 text\, is a mordantly comic exploration of one household’s attempts to shelter from the merciless approach of imminent devastation under a tattered blanket of art\, beauty and dog-eared love.” \n \nAbbey Theatre\, 13th April – 11th May \nOn the Abbey stage from 13th April to 11th May\, tickets are on sale now

SUMMARY:Double Bill: The Bad Daters & The Good Cheaters
DESCRIPTION:The Bad Daters & The Good Cheaters are written and directed by New York-based Derek Murphy\, originally from Ballyfermot. Both shows feature comedian Brian Gallagher\, resident MC of Dublin’s Laughter Lounge\, and actress Sarah Maria Lafferty. The Bad Daters recently had its world premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival\, where it received five-star critical acclaim and a sold-out run.  \nLafferty\, a Dublin-based actor and producer\, began her work on both shows when introduced to Derek Murphy in 2016 during a theatre workshop in New York. \n“Both shows\, The Bad Daters and The Good Cheaters\, are captivating dark Irish comedies that deeply resonate with audiences\,” explains Lafferty. “In The Bad Daters\, we are introduced to Liam and Wendy\, who have met online. The dark comedy delves into the complexities of human connection and the daunting experience of seeking love for individuals scarred by past relationships. On the contrary\, The Good Cheaters follows the journey of Paddy and Phyllis as they navigate the treacherous waters of adultery within their own relationship. They are a perfect blend of hilarity and tragedy\, courtesy of the talented writer\, Derek Murphy”. \nLafferty’s co-star Brian Gallagher is well known as the resident MC at Dublin’s Laughter Lounge and a rising star in the Irish comedy circuit\, previously opening for Tommy Tiernan at Vicar Street. \n“Irish audiences are in for a treat”\, explained Gallagher. “We were absolutely amazed by the overwhelming response to The Bad Daters at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival\, receiving outstanding 4 and 5-star reviews from all corners. Now\, at The Viking\, we are thrilled to present an even more epic night of dark comedy-drama with the inclusion of The Good Cheaters. While modern technology may facilitate faster connections\, it cannot replace the authenticity and personal touch that define genuine relationships.” \nThe Bad Daters & The Good Cheaters run at The Viking Theatre\, The Sheds\, 198 Clontarf Road from 8th-20th April. Tickets are priced from €20. \nvikingtheatredublin.com
