SUMMARY:Stay Human Collective Fundraising Concert
DESCRIPTION:A fundraising concert by the Stay Human Collective will take place on Wednesday April 30th in Whelan’s Dublin\, featuring a host of renowned Irish artists. All proceeds will go to the Stay Human School in Jabalia\, Northern Gaza\, which currently provides education for 50 children as well as essential food\, fresh water\, baby supplies\, and financial support to the local community. \nFunds raised will support the school’s day-to-day operations and provide essential humanitarian support to the community during this ongoing crisis. Beyond academic learning\, the school serves as a place where children can rebuild friendships and find psychological support in a safe environment amid the devastation. \nThe fundraising event will feature performances from veteran Dublin band Sack\, chart-topping singer-songwriter Mundy\, Wexford-based group Novatone\, solo artist Alice Jago\, and Brian Brannigan of critically acclaimed A Lazarus Soul. \nComedian Kevin Gildea will be keeping things on track throughout the course of the evening as MC\, while Dublin artist Stefan Murphy will perform a specially written song ‘Prayer for the Palestinian people’. \n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nView this post on Instagram\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nA post shared by STEFAN MURPHY – HOSPITAL VERSES (@stefanmurphymusic) \n\n\n \nSpokesperson Moira Cassidy\, who is organizing the Dublin concert\, said: “We’re so grateful to all the artists who will perform on April 30th in Whelan’s to help raise funds for the Stay Human Collective in Jabalia. We really want to support the community in their mission to keep Palestinian children’s dreams alive through education. Education offers a form of hope in the midst of the trauma and suffering these children have and are enduring. The school is basically just four walls in a bombed-out area in Gaza\, but since opening in September it has provided not just education\, but distraction from the horrors they are enduring. In the school\, these young children\, many of whom are orphaned and have medical or psychological issues\, can have some semblance of normality. The Stay Human school has become an essential space in their lives which we want to help continue and expand for the other children in the community who are eager to attend.” \n \nThe Stay Human Collective began as a grassroots mutual aid initiative in mid-2024 with members from Ireland\, Italy\, the UK\, Egypt\, and Palestine who started crowdfunding as an emergency response to provide humanitarian aid to families in Jabalia. The project evolved when local team members in Gaza transformed part of a damaged building into a classroom\, recruited three teachers\, and gathered educational supplies. Since September 2024\, the school has offered Arabic\, English\, and Mathematics to children in the community. \nAbed\, who works on the Stay Human initiative in Jabalia with his wife and teacher\, Aya\, explains what the school means to the students: “The Stay Human school gives the children hope in darkness. It gives them a chance to learn\, play and socialise with their peers. It’s a chance for some feeling of normal life. We are grateful to all our donors and especially to the Irish people who have stood in solidarity with us.” \n The Stay Human Collective Fundraiser Concert takes place at Whelan’s on Wednesday 30th April 2025. Tickets are €25.50 and are on sale now at whelanslive.com. Doors open at 7.30pm. DESCRIPTION:A quick return for the band who blew the roof off the Grand Social in November after their Borderline Festival stealing performance in February.  The English five piece move up to Opium and a bigger stage to host their madcap stage antics\, which are a sight to behold. The music is class too\, a riotous riot of punk\, dance and klezmer\, played at a hundred miles an hour. This is what it’s like to feel young. \n \nOpium\, March 2nd\, Tickets here.\n \nsingularartists.ie

SUMMARY:Wasps vs Humans + Captain Moonlight
DESCRIPTION:Expect high octane live performances as Wasps vs Humans return to The Thomas House\, bringing their anarchic mix of drums\, bodhrán\, whistles\, punk poetry\, songs and beats with them.\n\nTheir debut album\, Scratchcard Empires released in October features singles\, 20 million Andrew Tates\, Price You Pay and Ugly America – a dark take on life’s expectations\, dealing with disappointment\, inner city crime\, an obsessive fame craving culture\, with a huge dollop of desperation.\n\nInitially a solo project\, WvHs punk poet/drummer\, Carl Antony Plover has shared the stage with legendary acts such as John Cooper Clarke\, The Fall\, Whipping Boy and Christy Moore. In the 80s\, he released an album and single as part of Avant Garde band 4\,000\,000 Telephones. SUMMARY:Accents
DESCRIPTION:When Cork musician Eoin French passed away in August 2024\, the Irish musical community mourned the loss of a giant. As known as Talos\, French departed this mortal coil way\, way too early but leaves a musical legacy that will be cherished by many for years to come. He was also responsible for providing one half of the creative output of the transformative 2022 hit show Accents\, written by Emmet Kirwan. \nPrompted by the birth of Kirwan’s first son\, the actor-writer explores the sounds of our voices and how they define us\, how we’re perceived and how they can give us power\,  a play that takes the form of eight poems delivered against French’s incredible soundtrack. \nThe show has its own unique universe with its own gravitational pull\, with an expanding and contracting celestial rhythm driven by Kirwan\, under the compelling and energetic direction of one of Ireland’s most exciting directors\, Claire O’Reilly. It is Kirwan’s Big Bang stage presence\, his pulsating life-affirming energies through words and movement that make this show a must for your new year outing. \nAccompanied by the amazing musical talents of Ben Bix and Brian (The Line) Dillon\, two classically trained musicians and members of the experimental electronic super group Melty Brains. Through their multi-instrumental talents they bring Eoin’s exquisite score to life. \nAmbassador Theatre\, Dublin\nThursday 16 + Friday 17 + Saturday 18 January @ 7.30pm\nTickets: €31.25/€50 + booking fee \nAmbassador Box Office – ticketmaster.ie

SUMMARY:Burning Realm
DESCRIPTION:Dublin based psychedelic rock outfit Burning Realm released one of this writer’s favourite records of the year in ‘Face The Fire’\, a four song extended play of mountainous riffs\, skewed mythology and Thin Lizzy inspired twin guitar leads. The followed this up with probably my favourite rock show of the year in the Bello Bar. \nCollecting members of No Spill Blood\, Terrordactyl and Realistic Train\, the band infuse their kinetic rock tinged grooves with a punk edge that makes a lot of sense when you consider the band’s pedigree\, serving in Dublin punk legends Puget Sound. \n \nWords: Adhamh O’Caoimh \nBurning Realm play at Anseo\, 18 Camden Street Lower\, Saint Kevin’s\, Dublin 2\, D02 WK72 on Saturday November 30th

SUMMARY:Dark Blue ANOHNI Sings Lou Reed
DESCRIPTION:This will be special. Two generational voices come together as Anohni takes on Reed’s classic catalogue and transgressive lyrics in her own inimitable style. ANOHNI’s relationship with Lou Reed stretches back over two decades. In 2003\, she was a supporting vocalist on the Animal Serenade tour and performed on a number of tracks on Reed’s Edgar Allan Poe inspired album The Raven. In 2006/2007 she sang backing vocals for Reed’s first full performance of Berlin in New York and Sydney. In addition\, Reed contributed vocals and guitar to ‘Fistful of Love’ from I Am a Bird Now. Across her 30-year career ANOHNI has forged a singular path through popular music\, mirroring Reed’s beguiling musical journey in so many ways.     \n \nNational Concert Hall\, Tues. 26th November 8pm   \nnch.ie

SUMMARY:Bicurious
DESCRIPTION:Dublin/Leipzig rock duo Bicurious recently ran an incredibly successful crowdfunding campaign to release their sophomore record\, alongside a slew of celebratory tour dates. \nThe pair\, famed for their frenzied live performances\, mountainous riffs\, Mariana deep grooves and oceanic psychedelia\, are amongst Ireland’s most unique propositions at this juncture. \nTheir hook laden sonic adventures have a tangible joy about them\, and not since Adebisi Shank have I been so compelled and elated to dance. I would urge readers to seek out their brilliant 2021 debut\, ‘(re)constructed’\, which to this day\, years since its release\, has remained a mainstay in my weekly rotation. \nAlongside the excellent news about their campaign\, the band also announced a UK and Irish winter tour\, with Belfast and Cork dates\, alongside a sure to be sold out show at Dublin’s Grand Social on the 21st of November. It is\, without question\, one of this humble writer’s most anticipated releases\, and without doubt\, should be one of yours as well. \nTickets available here. \nWords: Adhamh Ó Caoimh \n@bicuriousbandofficial \nbicuriousbandofficial.com

SUMMARY:Mabe Fratti & Special Guests
DESCRIPTION:Mabe Fratti and her group put on one of the most incredible performances I had the honour of witnessing in 2023. Those frenzied pioneers at Foggy Notions have once again facilitated an evening for the Guatemalan cello wǔnderkind to deliver an absolutely spellbinding meditation\, echoing her work with Belafonte Sensacional and Claire Rousay\, and the experie-metal supergroup she spearheads\, Amor Muere. At times recalling the heady peaks post-rock overlords Godspeed You! Black Emperor\, which is no easy mission for a trio\, the performance made me a lifelong fan. SUMMARY:Wider Than Pictures
DESCRIPTION:Looking for a series of gigs with a star-studded line-up\, right in the heart of Dublin? Singular Artists have got you covered. \nWider Than Pictures is fast becoming a summer highlight in Dublin. Taking place in one of the most easily accessible and aesthetic locations in the city – The National Museum of Ireland at Collins Barracks – the series promises an unforgettable music experience a short Luas trip away from the centre of the city. \nThirty-five years since their debut\, Deacon Blue take centre stage on the 23rd. Their 2012 comeback single ‘The Hipsters’ heralded a new lease of life for the group and jump-started a second act that’s seen them more fired up and prolific than ever. Claire Grogan’s Altered Images and hip young Dublin quartet WineMom support. \nJames Blunt headlines on the 24th\, with Gareth Dunlop opening proceedings. With seven albums released since 2004 and over 20 million records sold worldwide\, Blunt’s popularity hasn’t faded and it’s no surprise that this performance has already sold out. \n \nOn August 25th\, The The bring their Ensouled world tour to Dublin\, their first since 2018. Active since 1979\, they’re one of England’s most loved bands. Matt Johnson’s political lyrics have always captured the zeitgeist so it’s a timely return. Local heroes A Lazarus Soul – who have just released their brilliant ‘No Flowers Grow In Cement Gardens’ album –  provide support on the night. \nJames takes over Collin Barracks on the 26th\, with The Zutons in support. Known for their compelling rock anthems like ‘Johnny Yen’ in the 1980s\, James achieved mainstream success with their 1990 album ‘Gold Mother’\, which included their massive hit ‘Sit Down’. When Amy Winehouse covered The Zutons song ‘Valerie’ the royalty cheques poured in and drew attention to one of the UK’s most entertaining bands. Recently reformed\, their appearance guarantees a top night out. \nGossip headline on the 27th\, marking their return with a first album in over a decade\, ‘Real Power’. The album celebrates creative expression while exploring themes of personal trauma. The brilliant Dublin 4 piece Sprints and American indie trio Nation of Language support to close out a stellar six days of music. \nWider Than Pictures takes place at The National Museum of Ireland\, Collins Barracks\, D7 August 23rd – 27th \nInfo & tickets: widerthanpictures.ie

SUMMARY:Social Unrest Festival
DESCRIPTION:Three nights of Punk Rock performed by bands from the U.S\, U.K and Ireland prove that punk is back but did it really ever go away? It’s a great topic over a few beers in the local but these three nights certainly prove that it has never been in a healthier state since the glory days of 1977. \nThe big draw is bound to be Ruts D.C who’s 1979 top ten hit single ‘Babylon’s Burning’ is a bona fide classic of the genre along with their brilliant reggae infused singles ‘Jah War’ and ‘Staring At The Rude Boys’. \n \nCulture Shock\, The Upstarts\, The Gakk\, Paranoid Visions and The Vulpynes are among a hoard of great bands playing so sugar soap up the mohawk and get moshing. \nSocial Unrest Festival  takes place at The Grand Social on Aug 9/10/11th \nsocialunrestfest.com
