SUMMARY:Perspectives
DESCRIPTION:The National Concert Hall’s Perspectives series sees many of the leading lights in contemporary music explore the musical present in a series of unique concert experiences. \nBoundaries between genres are beautifully blurred in this daringly curated series. Steve Reich’s 90th birthday will be celebrated by the Kronos Quartet in a concert focusing on quartets commissioned by Kronos including the seminal Different Trains. \n \nAn all-star line-up of contemporary jazz masters including Joe Lovano and Jeff “Tain” Watts will pay homage to the staggering legacy of John Coltrane\, in a programme of modern interpretations of his work plus originals inspired by his spirit and music. \nThe ever probing and experimental hardanger d’amore-fiddle player Caoimhin O Raghallaigh meets fellow sonic navigators Eiko Ishibashi and Jim O’Rourke for an intimate gig @The Studio. \nComposer and Guitarist Mary Halvorson will play music from her new album “About Ghosts\, and as if not spoiled for choice already\, American band leader\, drummer\, and beat maker\, Makaya McCraven will be on the main stage playing music from his seminal albums “In the Moment”\, “ In these Times” and his latest release\, “Off the Record”. \nnch.ie

SUMMARY:Culture Night: Soul Juice x Culture Night Late
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating its 21st birthday\, Culture Night continues to wow with an amazing programme of events throughout the country on September 18th. \nWe could be here for weeks highlighting what’s great but instead of that we’re gonna send you to Bewley’s on Grafton Street for our hot hot tip of the night\, the Soul Juice Jam. \nSoul Juice is Dublin’s live improvised music community\, usually housed in The Sugar Club\, bringing together musicians\, vocalists\, rappers\, poets\, and music lovers for an evening of spontaneous creation. \nInspired by London’s thriving jam scene\, Soul Juice creates a space where collaboration comes before perfection and every performance is unique. \nIt’s hosted by Irish/Cuban hip hop artist Qbanaa and her red hot house band and there’s a guest DJ from Dublin hip hop artist Mickartz. If you wanna jam just buy a ticket and present yourself at the door.   \nSoul Juice x Culture Night Late Friday Sept 18th\, Bewleys\, Grafton St\, D2. \nTickets via eventbrite.ie or culturenight.ie

SUMMARY:Music Network presents Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh\, Pauline Scanlon\, Tom Morrow & John Doyle
DESCRIPTION:Four powerhouses from the Irish traditional music scene come together for a special nationwide tour this autumn\, as Music Network marks its 40th anniversary with a collaboration that promises to be pretty special. \nMuireann Nic Amhlaoibh\, Pauline Scanlon\, Tom Morrow and John Doyle bring a wealth of experience\, influences and musical traditions to the stage\, with the quartet drawing on songs and tunes shaped by their different home places and remarkable careers. As John Doyle puts it\, “Each one of us brings nearly a different county to the set.” \n \nExpect exquisite vocal harmonies\, beautifully played fiddle\, flute and guitar\, and fresh takes on traditional repertoire\, alongside new material created especially for the tour. \nWith Muireann’s sean-nós singing and flute playing\, Pauline’s distinctive folk voice\, Tom’s expressive fiddle and John’s celebrated rhythmic guitar style\, this is a serious bit of Irish trad pedigree in one room. \nAnd there’s an added frisson: this particular combination may never happen quite like this again. The musicians are creating a programme specifically for these dates\, making it a musical snapshot of four exceptional artists at one particular moment. \nTouring nationwide from 16 September to 3 October\, with what promises to be a magical evening at The Sugar Club in Dublin amongst the stops. \nTickets and further details here. \nSupported by the Arts Council and Heritage Council.

SUMMARY:Crash Ensemble and NCH presents: Ae Mak X Crash Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:Following the release of her acclaimed debut album\, Folk Songs for Mama & Papa\, Irish artist Ae Mak (Aoife McCann) joins forces with Crash Ensemble for a special one-night-only performance at the National Concert Hall. \nAfter years of creating genre-defying\, otherworldly pop and delivering visceral\, kinetic performances across Europe and the UK\, Folk Songs for Mama & Papa marks a quiet yet profound artistic shift. Influenced by artists such as Björk\, Judee Sill\, Aldous Harding and Paul Simon\, the album moves away from character and performance towards something deeply personal and essential. \nRooted in voice\, breath and emotional resonance\, it is a collection of spiritual\, cosmically inspired folk songs that places vulnerability and human connection at its core. \n \n  \nThis special performance centres on songs from the album\, newly arranged for Crash by Barry O’Halpin. Together\, Ae Mak and Crash bring these intimate works to life on stage\, expanding the album’s rich harmonies and emotional depth through the ensemble’s distinctive sound world. \nWritten during a period of heartbreak\, self-questioning and transformation\, the songs are ultimately filled with hope\, humour\, and devotion. \nCrash Ensemble: Credit Brid O’Donovan\nThey explore illumination\, creation and the quiet\, ecstatic belief that we are not alone – that we are spiritual beings having a human experience… “we came from the stars\, you see”. \n\nCrash Ensemble and NCH presents Ae Mak X Crash Ensemble at 8pm on Friday 13th November 2026 at The Studio\, National Concert Hall\, Dublin\n\n‍Tickets €22.00 \nThis performance is made possible with support from the Arts Council of Ireland/An Chomhairle Ealaíon and Dublin City Council. \nFeatured Image: Ae Mak – credit Tim Shearwood
