SUMMARY:Black Church Print Draw 2025
DESCRIPTION:Black Church Print Studio have come up with a novel way of recruiting people to their ‘Collector’ programme with their innovative print draw. The concept is a simple one – become a member of their ‘Collector’ programme for €200\, and you’ll be allocated a ticket to the print draw. On the night of the draw\, you get to see the prints\, and the ticket numbers are drawn at random – as soon as your ticket is drawn\, you can select the print you want from the ones remaining. \nEveryone is guaranteed a print\, some valued at way more than the ticket price. It all goes down at The Library Project on Thursday November 20th\, where they’re holding a special preview from 6pm on the evening of the Draw. \nTickets for the Collector’s Draw are now available via the Print Studio’s website. \n blackchurchprint.ie \nFeature Image: Aisling Conroy\, CHLADNI AKUSTIK IV\, Digital\, screen print and linocut \n \nSee some more lovely print illustrations here.

SUMMARY:CMAT Fundraiser For Action Aid's Gaza Emergency Appeal
DESCRIPTION:Grab your wigs\, dust off your sequins\, and get ready to scream-sing\, because this Halloween Sing Along Social is worshipping at the altar of the Dunboyne Diana herself: CMAT! \nExpect a night of pure pop witchcraft\, conjuring up the biggest CMAT bangers alongside spells from our other favourite divas (we’re talking Charli XCX\, Chappell Roan\, Lady Gaga\, Sinead O’Connor and more). If it’s dramatic\, they’re serving it. If it’s unhinged\, they’re blessing it. Camp is non-negotiable. \nAnd here’s a message to the party girls dragged out by their ankles: they want you to dress for the occasion. Come as an international pop star\, a cowboy or a six-inch-heel-wearing banshee. They’ll have their photographer ready to take a cool new picture of you. \n \nAll proceeds going to Action Aid Ireland’s Gaza Emergency Appeal 🍉 \nTickets here.

SUMMARY:Concert For Appalachia
DESCRIPTION:The Appalachian Mountains in the United States have long-standing ties with Ireland – Appalachian old-time and bluegrass music echoes the tones\, ballads\, and instruments of Irish trad. These areas share history\, song and background in a trans-Atlantic connection. \nThe Appalachian region of North Carolina was destroyed by Hurricane Helene\, a once in a thousand year weather event – a hurricane seven hours from the ocean. Rivers typically 20 ft. wide became 1000 ft.\, sweeping away homes\, roads\, schools and entire communities and leaving hundreds dead and thousands homeless. \nOn 16 December\, Ireland is offering support for the Appalachian mountain region with a night of music and poetry benefitting BeLoved Asheville\, a mutual aid social justice charity leading recovery efforts and creating housing for thousands of people displaced by the raging flood waters and landslides. \n \nThis event is headlined by Grammy\, Pulitzer Prize\, and MacArthur Genius Grant winner Rhiannon Giddens. Based in Limerick\, Giddens is a visionary musician who co-founded the Carolina Chocolate Drops\, and is a two-time GRAMMY winner\, with nine additional nominations for her work as a soloist and collaborator. She will be performing with Ireland-renowned Congolese guitarist Niwel Tsumbu. \n \nOther contributing artists include Irish soul vocal royalty Mary Coughlan; I Draw Slow\, a Dublin-based group sitting squarely at the intersection of Irish and Appalachian music; Enda Scahill\, four-time All-Ireland Champion in banjo with Simon Crehan; Loah\, creator and queen of ‘Art Soul’ music which blends West African\, soul\, and Irish traditional music; and Erin Fornoff\, Appalachian Irish poet. \n \nOrganizer Erin Fornoff said\, “There are deeply held ties between Appalachia and Ireland. The thing both places have in their DNA is a passion for helping others\, even across the pond.’’ \n \nTickets are priced at €28. The show will be held at Whelan’s on MondayDecember 16th. Doors open at 19:30.

SUMMARY:Willie Nelson’s 90th Birthday
DESCRIPTION:Willie turns 90 on the 29th and remains one of the most enduringly popular country music singers of his time. He claims marijuana saved his life and how “energy follows thought\, so be careful what you’re thinking.” With his customary bandana and braids\, Nelson started out in honky-tonks before migrating to the Grand Old Opry and has released seventy full-length records since his début in 1962. \nThis fundraiser brings together local musicians who all wish to pay tribute to Nelson\, presumably by covering his greatest hits. Artists include Maija Sofia\, NC Lawlor\, Brigid Mae Power\, Joseph Chester\, Séan Millar\, Tandem Felix and others. \nWhelan’s\, Friday April 28\, (in aid of Aoibhneas & The Peter McVerry Trust)

SUMMARY:Past The End
DESCRIPTION:The Fumbally Cafe is the place to be on December 16th\, where a stunning lineup get together for Past The End\, a musical fundraiser for Women’s Aid. The organisers tell us that the name is a nod to The End is Nigh\, an epic night in 2012\, when singer Lisa Hannigan and others played to a sweet Christmas gang to mark the end of the Mayan Calendar and of all existence. (Editor’s note –  some of us are still here.) \nPerformers on the night include Brian Mooney’s band The Next New Low\, featuring Sean Coleman\, Daniel Luke Smith\, and James Smith. There will also be a trio performance with Mary Barnecutt\, Sean Mac Erlaine and Mathew Nolan\, while singer songwriter Laura Ann Brady will be conjuring up sounds that invoke memories and stir the heart and soul.  Expect to see a few surprise guests dropping by too. \nObviously the aim is to raise as much as possible for a great cause. See you there! \nTickets are €15 plus booking fees and VAT. All proceeds from the night will go to Women’s Aid.\n \n*Note: The Bar will be open\, but food will not be available. \n  \nAbout The Performers… \n \nThe Next New Low \nEverything is nearly always falling apart when the next new low play\, but somehow the well- crafted songs save us and we all leave with a comfortable glow. Featuring Brian Mooney\, Sean Coleman\, Daniel Luke Smith\, and James Smith. \n  \nMary Barnecutt\, Matthew Nolan\, & Seán Mac Erlaine \nSeán Mac Erlaine is a composer\, musician and mastering engineer. Recognised as one of Ireland’s most forward-thinking creative musicians\, he has worked with many leading lights of music today. Seán’s work is genre agnostic and readily intersects folk\, free improvisation\, jazz and traditional music. \nMatthew Nolan is a Dublin based musician\, composer\, academic and curator. Since 2015\, he has produced new work in collaboration with some of the finest musicians around\, both Irish and international. He has worked on commissions from a range of prestigious performing arts institutions\, including: National Gallery\, BAM and the Film Society at Lincoln Centre in New York\, The National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.\, Kilkenny Arts Festival\, Bram Stoker Festival and the St Patrick’s Festival. \nMary Barnecutt is a Dublin-based musician\, educator and curator who works with a variety of artists\, bands\, orchestras and educational projects. She has written music for short films\, theatre\, dance productions\, and has worked with artists such as\, Julie Feeney\, Nell Regan\, Justine Doswell\, Amanda Coogan\, Adrian Crowley\, Liz Roche\, Seti the 1st\, Ray Harman and Ruth O’Mahony Brady. \n  \nLaura Ann Brady \nLaura Ann Brady is an alternative folk artist and drama therapist from Dublin. She experiments with folk and Irish traditional songs in her work and this informs her own process of song writing. Laura plays various instruments including autoharp and piano and enjoys the ritual of layering vocals and sounds that invoke memories and stir the heart and soul.

SUMMARY:taproot_art auction: FRUIT
DESCRIPTION:taproot_art return with their 3rd annual benefit auction with 50% of proceeds raised for Merchants Quay Ireland.  Curated and auctioned by taproot_art founder\, Sophie Murphy\, this year’s auction will be entirely fruit themed featuring contemporary art/photography from leading Irish and international artists such as Shane Berkery\, Jay Miriam\, Blaise Cepis\, Robyn Carey\, Peter Doyle Decoy\, & Neil Dunne\, music from rising Irish DJ/Producer Drua\,  \nRSVP: The auction will be free to attend\, and attendees can RSVP on the eventbrite page here. (RSVP is not essential\, but note that capacity tends to be reached within 30 minutes of opening.) \nArtists: \n\nNeil Dunne (Dublin)\nBlaise Cepis (New York)\nShane Berkery (Dublin)\nMiriam Dema (Barcelona)\nRobyn Carey (Dublin)\nJay Miriam (New York)\nPeter Doyle (London/Dublin)\nFergal Styles (Dublin)\nHugh Cooney (Dublin)\nClaire Prouvost (Dublin)\nDonal Talbot (Lisbon/Dublin)\nKathryn Rose (New York)\nDan Comerford (Dublin/Paris)\nNiall Cullen (Dublin)\nAntonia (Lisbon)\nDecoy (Dublin)\nRob Mirolo (Leipzig/Dublin)\nRoisin Nolan (Dublin)\nCyan Ryan (Dublin)\nGeoff Ryan (Dublin)\n\nCurator’s note: \nMiddle English derived from Old French\, once again derived from Latin- ‘fructus’ can be defined as ‘enjoyment of produce\, harvest’. Indeed\, the origins of language can serve as a good barometer for many things\, but it is certainly a good way to understand how the masses felt about primitive things during humanity’s more nascent stages. In the case for fruit\, it would appear as though enjoyment is embedded in the very definition of its term\, and understandably so.  Fruit symbolises so much more than simply being a byproduct of the earth’s natural labours\, but also the enjoyment it offers to its both consumers\, innovators and spectators alike. It is the foundation for juice\, paintings\, landscapes\, perfumes\, memes\, vitamin intake\, and now…well\, auctions. For one night only\, you can bask in this enjoyment and appreciate fruit in all its glories and capabilities\, by observing great works from a set of top contemporary artists while devouring a mango simultaneously.   \n \n

SUMMARY:Strictly Handbag - Celebrating 25 Years
DESCRIPTION:Martin Thomas was patched into the fabric of the city. A promoter\, chancer and bon vivant; Thomas was a man never short of an idea or opinion. He was one of us. The Drogheda native flipped venues into bewitching club spectacles and Strictly Handbag was probably the best known of these. If you’re of a certain vintage you’ll remember its flyers which came in the shape of a handbag you could assemble. The Monday nightclub in Rí Rá (yes we had Monday nightclubs back then) was a mainstay for the service industry who know how to party like no other. Thomas sadly left the scene earlier this year after a battle with cancer. This fundraiser for his family is also a cause for nostalgia and celebration. Dave Haslam\, Dandeloin and many other stalwarts from that era are on the decks.
