SUMMARY:LORE: Mexican & Irish Folklore - Minaw Collective
DESCRIPTION:Minaw Collective presents LORE\, a group exhibition exploring Irish and Mexican folklore through contemporary visual art\, hosted by the Embassy of Mexico in Ireland from October 16th to 30th 2026. \nBringing together new work by members of the Ireland-based collective\, LORE draws on folklore\, mythology\, symbolism and storytelling\, looking at the ways inherited stories continue to live through retelling and reinterpretation. \nClaire Prouvost – oil on canvas\nAcross distinct artistic practices\, the exhibition considers how folklore carries ideas of place\, memory\, nature\, belief and belonging. \nThe exhibition creates a meeting point between two cultures where folklore and storytelling have long held cultural significance\, exploring both their distinctive traditions and the connections that can emerge between them. \n \nThe exhibition also reflects Minaw Collective’s own evolving story. Rooted in Ireland’s street-art\, graffiti and mural community\, Minaw has grown over more than a decade into a collective whose members work across public art\, illustration\, painting and wider studio practice. LORE brings those individual voices together around a shared subject while allowing each artist to approach folklore from their own perspective. \nArtists include Anna Doran\, Claire Prouvost\, ESTR\, Gabriela Joyce\, Holly Pereira\, Hixxy\, Kin MX\, Klo-wi\, Loki PookaDubh\, MyfanwyNia\, Novice\, Ohhi\, Sarah Bracken Soper\, Zippy\, and Zurdie. \nFor public visits during the exhibition\, the Embassy advises visiting hours of 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm to 5.0 pm\, with last admission at 4.45pm. SUMMARY:John Kingerlee At 90
DESCRIPTION:Trinity Gallery Dublin presents Kingerlee at 90 by John Kingerlee\, an exhibition celebrating the artist’s 90th year – alongside the release of his new book\, Heads\, by acclaimed author Jonathan Benington. \nOpening 15th October\, the exhibition brings together original works spanning the last five years of his practice\, mostly completed within his 90th year. \nHeads is the third book dedicated to Kingerlee’s work and will focus exclusively on his head paintings while bringing together 90 works ranging from 1962 to 2026.   \nHe says\, “Paintings are like wild horses in a sense for me. I want my wild horses roaming the prairie in the uplands free. I don’t want them fenced around into small fields and that’s what you’re doing if you surround a painting with rationality.”   \nThe exhibition will run from the 15th – 30th of October at Trinity Gallery\, 19 Clare St\, D2. \ntrinitygallery.ie

SUMMARY:Kyrre Mogster - Substance to Shadows
DESCRIPTION:Norwegian artist Kyrre Mogster brings Substance to Shadows to Dublin\, presenting a striking series of paintings exploring hedonism\, human folly and the darker side of certainty. \nCreated using ink and oil stick on canvas\, the works are packed with vivid colour and unsettling imagery\, with figures gorging\, gathering and unravelling among recurring motifs of vessels\, limbs\, crowds and empty thrones. \nInspired by the writings of American sociologist Alvin Gouldner\, in a series addressing the dangers of failing to confront and interrogate our ideological biases\, Mogster explores what happens when ideas become rigid and beliefs go unquestioned. \nRather than offering easy answers\, Substance to Shadows invites viewers to sit with contradiction\, doubt and the uncomfortable spaces between conviction and folly. \nThe exhibition runs at Tøn Gallery from September 10th to September 30th. \ntondublin.com

SUMMARY:Satellite Salon
DESCRIPTION:Black Church Print Studio presents Satellite Salon\, a group exhibition curated by Colin Martin at The Library Project\, Temple Bar. The exhibition brings together two primary conceptual ideas: the print studio as a dynamic site of collective artistic production\, and the salon as a forum for inclusive presentation. \nThe print studio as a site of artistic production is one that facilitates and supports modes of production in printmaking. Print studios are factorial communal spaces that are both inclusive and accessible. They are sustaining spaces that are hands-on and haptic and filled with specialist materials and technical knowledge. Printmakers and artists orbit these spaces supported by their gravitational pull and benefit from the mutual support and opportunity that arises. \n\n\nThe term Salone derives from the French term for a reception space. These spaces contradictorily create an elite space for specialism\, while simultaneously creating a bounded inclusivity within that envelope. The salon typically created a formal device to create commonality between disparate elements. Inevitably hierarchies between genres developed\, the humility of still lives were skyed while history paintings were hung on the privileged eye level. On balance the salon space is an egalitarian one that corresponds to the social nature of spaces such as the Black Church Print Studio. The leveling nature of the print studio is both an intergenerational workspace that accommodates artists working at various levels of experience in a specialist field. \nSatellite Salon is conceived as the inaugural pilot in a series of biennials focused exclusively on printmaking\, this exhibition highlights the essential medium and core discipline underpinning the Black Church Print Studio members’ diverse artistic practices. \n\nSatellite Salon\, curated by Colin Martin\, commissioned by Black Church Print Studio is at The Library Project\, 4 Temple Bar\, Dublin from September 4th–26th 2026.  Opening takes place on Thursday\, September 3rd. Opening Hours: Mon–Fri 11am–6pm; Sat 12pm–6pm

SUMMARY:No Mirrors Left in Gaza - Miriam McConnon
DESCRIPTION:Miriam McConnon’s new series of work has been informed by her correspondence with families in Gaza over the last two years. \nThe work is focused on locating the soft space within domestic life in a time of war. A space that is resilient and counteracts the hardness of the conflict beyond its fabric walls. The artist examines the dichotic co-existence of these two opposing realities in her paintings. In her paintings she depicts temporary shelters that strive to remain a home.  She elevates the last remaining domestic objects that these families in Gaza possess\, to priceless commodities. Each domestic scene is adorned in patterns from the families’ personal possessions allowing their presence to be felt in the work. \nTwo garments of children’s clothing hang in the sash windows of the gallery. The small jackets are made from medical gauze\, a fabric which originated in Gaza\, hence its name. This fragile fabric gains its strength as a medical bandage for the wounded. These ‘Baby Armours’ are a homage to the tens of thousands of children who have been killed in the genocide in Gaza. \nMiriam also references the archeological documentation of war in her series of ancient pots which carry images of displaced Palestinian families. History is more often narrated through a series of battles\, won and lost. Miriam McConnon’s work aims to document and to archive for future generations\, the overlooked side of this war\, the survival of the domestic living space and its function as a gate keeper of everyday security. \nThis exhibition recognizes the unassuming power of the domestic space to facilitate security and dignity in a time of famine and genocide. \n \n2026 is a milestone year for the artist who\, back in March\, had a solo show at the Europa Gallery\, Dublin\, to mark the Cypriot Presidency of the European Council. We had the pleasure of coordinating the exhibition\, titled Common Fractures\, by invitation of and in collaboration with the European Parliament Liaison Office in Ireland. We should also congratulate the artist for featuring on the website of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and in Irish art in Cyprus: Meet Miriam McConnon\, a wonderful film about her practice and work in Cyprus. \nThe official opening takes place at 3pm on Sunday August 30th 2026\, at Olivier Cornet Gallery\, 3 Great Denmark Street\, Dublin 1. The Guest speaker is Alaa Alqaisi\, a Palestinian translator\, writer\, and researcher from Gaza. She holds an MA in Translation Studies and is a PhD candidate at Trinity College Dublin. \nA special musical event will also take place on Culture Night 2026\, September 18th 2026. \nThe exhibition runs until September 27th 2026.

SUMMARY:Hidden Light - A Solo Exhibition by Karen McLaughlin
DESCRIPTION:Contemporary Irish artist Karen McLaughlin presents Hidden Light\, a solo exhibition of more than 30 contemporary abstract paintings. \nWorking through abstraction\, McLaughlin’s paintings consider how memory\, emotion and lived experience shape the way we experience the land around us- and how\, in turn\, the landscape quietly reflects and transforms our inner lives. Richly layered with texture\, gesture and light\, the works invite moments of stillness and contemplation\, encouraging viewers to form their own personal connection with each painting. \nCurated by Dino Notaro\, Hidden Light explores landscape not as a destination\, but as a meeting place between the external world and our own inner experience. The exhibition invites visitors to slow down and reflect on the subtle dialogue between place\, memory and self. \nAbout The Artist  \nKaren McLaughlin is a contemporary Irish artist based between Dublin and the Inishowen Peninsula\, County Donegal. Her practice explores the emotional and psychological experience of landscape\, creating paintings that exist between memory\, observation and imagination. \nWorking in both mixed media and acrylic\, McLaughlin develops immersive surfaces where traces of the natural world emerge and recede. Rather than depicting specific places\, her paintings evoke the shifting qualities of light\, weather and atmosphere\, inviting viewers into landscapes that feel both deeply familiar and impossible to fully define. \nThe landscapes of north-west Ireland provide a continual point of departure\, but the work is less concerned with representation than with the experience of being in a place. The horizon becomes a recurring motif not as a destination\, but as a space of possibility\, reflection and quiet transformation. \nThrough an intuitive process of building\, obscuring and revealing\, McLaughlin creates contemplative works that encourage stillness and personal interpretation. Her paintings ask us to look beyond the visible landscape and towards the subtle\, often unseen connections between ourselves\, nature and the passage of time. \nKaren studied Fine Art at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD)\, Dublin\, and exhibits throughout Ireland and the UK. \nOpening Reception: Thursday\, 6 August 2026 | 6–8pm \nThe exhibition runs at Ranelagh Arts\, Dublin from August 6th to September 5th 2026 \nKarenAnneFineArt.com \n@karenanne_mclaughlin

SUMMARY:Gemma Browne - Ashes of Roses
DESCRIPTION:‘Ashes of Roses’\, a pinkish grey colour that provided the name for a well-known 20th century perfume and range of cosmetics by Bourjois of Paris\, has a special resonance for Gemma Browne\, acting as a conduit for the memories that are such an important engine for her creative process. Browne remembers the name from Quentin Crisp’s memoir ‘The Naked Civil Servant‘ in which he recounts that in the 1960s while working in advertising he created a poster for Coty’s ‘Ashes of Roses’. Memory is of course nebulous\, and as far as I can find Coty have never had a product with this name. To paraphrase playwright Tennessee Williams’ tragic heroine Blanche Dubois\, magic is more important than realism…. \n…Flowers are often used as metaphors for young women in poetry and literature. The rapidly fading bloom of a rose and its comparison to the fleeting beauty of youth is contemplated and critiqued by Browne’s paintings. Her pools and patches of pink and brown paint fluidly combine\, like makeup\, to describe the skin of the women\, who in ‘Blossoms’\, ‘Amber’ and ‘True’ stare intensely in close-up. These and the other paintings of young women do not depict individuals\, they are amalgams drawn from found images\, their unsmiling looks atmospherically unsettling alongside the brightly coloured blooms. Browne describes them as portraits of female energy and their nearly-always-direct gaze is unerring. \n– Excerpt from an Accompanying Text written by Cathy Lomax \nTo coincide with Ashes of Roses\, the Gallery is hosting an evening with Gemma Browne and Cathy Lomax: In Conversation on Thursday 27th August at 6.30pm. \nThis event is supported by the Night-Time Economy After Hours at the Museum Scheme and Dublin by Dusk. \nGemma Browne is an Irish artist born in London and based in Dublin. SUMMARY:Portage: Abhainn Wheeler\, Andrew Murphy\, Gildas O Laoire and Mark Redden
DESCRIPTION:PORTAGE brings together paintings\, sculptural forms\, ceramic vessels\, and sculptural light to explore journeys shaped by wind\, water\, myth\, and memory. \nThe title refers to the act of carrying a boat across land to reach new waters — an enduring image of migration\, resilience\, and the search for new horizons. It echoes Werner Herzog’s film ‘Fitzcarraldo’\, where a steamship is hauled over a mountain in pursuit of an impossible dream. In PORTAGE\, that same gesture becomes a metaphor for movement\, for risk\, and for the persistence required to cross from one world to another. \nAndrew Murphy presents sculptures whittled from native Tasmanian timbers alongside paintings of reconfigured animals and beasts assembled from twigs gathered around his forest home. His works consider ecology\, the boat\, and hybrid forms that emerge in transit.\nMurphy was born in Hobart in 1963\, majored in painting and sculpture at the Tasmanian school of art and has been making and exhibiting art including public sculpture installations\, fire sculpture performances and various residencies over the past few decades. He lives a quiet reclusive life in the bush with the trees and the animals \nMark Redden shows paintings inspired by currach voyages on the Irish coast. The currach is a traditional fishing boat typical of the west coast of Ireland\, which he learned to build as a boy. The work traces a lineage of craft\, labor\, and navigation rooted in regeneration\, reconciliation and wanderlust. \nMark Redden\, The Island of Golden Shields\, oil on linen\, 79 x 79 cm\nBorn in Dublin 1979\, Redden is an Irish visual artist working between Dublin and Barcelona. His practice involves painting\, sculpture and drawing in a labourous process that investigates universal perception\, memory and personal experience. \nWith particular attention to surface quality\, colour\, and composition\, he renders symbolic forms that evolve and mutate in an ever changing environment\, opening pathways to subconscious thoughts. \nAbhainn Wheeler creates ceramic vessels bound to earth and water myths. The forms act as containers — of substance\, of story\, and of the memory carried across generations. \nAbhainn Wheeler\, Clíodhna’s Wave – Tonn Cíodhna\, Vessel 1 Hand coiled Stoneware\, oxidation fired 50cm x 45cm\nBorn in County Wicklow\, Wheeler is an emerging artist recently graduated from CCAD Cork in 2025 and currently works from Throwing Shapes Ceramic Studio as their Graduate in Residence. She is a contemporary ceramic artist\, whose practice is inspired by Ireland’s myths\, ancient folklore\, and the quiet traces of history embedded in the land. Rooted in material exploration and hand-built processes\, these sculptural vessels explore the relationship between place\, memory\, and storytelling\, evoking a sense of ritual\, belonging\, and connection to the natural world. \nGildas O Laoire contributes a series of light sculptures and Verdigris Surface Studies that explore the forces of ocean currents\, trade winds\, and navigation. \nGildas O Laoire\, Global Conveyor\, Copper and sea salt\, 24 x 19 cm\nThrough illumination\, texture\, and structure\, the works evoke guiding lights\, tidal forms and distant horizons\, reflecting the enduring relationship between movement\, orientation\, and the sea. \nBorn in Dublin in 1979\, Gildas studied Furniture Design at TU Dublin and Architectural Model Making at DLIADT before working as a cabinetmaker and establishing his independent practice. A multi-year RDS Craft Awards honouree and regular exhibitor with the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland\, he also lectures in Product Design and Timber Skills at TU Dublin. \nTogether\, PORTAGE reflects on the vessel in all its forms — as boat\, ceramic object\, light source\, and bearer of stories — while considering how migration\, landscape\, folklore\, and the sea continue to shape our understanding of place\, belonging\, and journey. \nPORTAGE group show opening takes place at Ton Gallery on Thursday July 30th at 6pm. \nFeature Image: Andrew Murphy\, Pack Horse\,Oil on canvas\,70 x 50 cm

SUMMARY:Vanessa Donoso López (O-O-O)
DESCRIPTION:Reflecting her experiences growing up in Barcelona and living in Ireland for over twenty years\, Vanessa Donoso López’s practice explores identity\, migration\, and cultural behaviours shaped by relocation. Her research on ‘transitional phenomena’ refers to the developmental space between internal and external reality\, where creativity and culture take form\, and identities and relationships are negotiated through objects\, gestures\, and shared practices. She uses primordial and attainable materials like clay\, soil and stones to examine how traditions\, language and values adapt across cultures over time. \nDonoso López’s exhibition explores movement as a strategy for adaptation\, resistance and transformation\, bringing together many material processes including low-fired ceramics\, natural pigments\, water and living plants. The resulting immersive installation includes a large number of ceramic vessels\, objects\, glazing and firing samples\, dyed fabrics and research materials\, and creates a sensitive ecosystem in a state of ongoing change. \nThe microhabitats that make up the installation\, mineral pigments used to dye fabric\, and add new colour to porous clays from different locations\, speak to the permeability of contemporary ecosystems. \nThrough this process\, objects and their surfaces are transformed\, making visible the influence of external factors on material forms\, echoing the ways people in transit adapt to and reshape their surroundings. \nThe exhibition is accompanied by a commissioned text by Caterina Almirall with translations in English\, Catalan and Spanish. \nVanessa Donoso López (O-O-O) is supported by an Arts Council Project Award and continues at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios until September 20th.

SUMMARY:Eating The Sun - Leliana Zeic
DESCRIPTION:Polish-born and Warsaw-based artist Liliana Zeic works with craft techniques\, video\, photography\, objects\, and text\, creating intermedia and performative projects based on artistic research. Since 2020\, she has increasingly turned to craft-based methods\, primarily developing her own woodwork technique rooted in intarsia. \nHer artistic practice is grounded in queer feminism and queer ecology\, most recently focusing on queer histories through the lens of folk mythology. 𝘌𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘶𝘯 is part of a research-led curatorial project\, developed in collaboration with Dr Aleksandra Gajowy (UCD)\, designed to introduce Central and Eastern European (CEE) lesbian artistic practices to an Irish audience. \nIn her work Zjadaczki Słońca (The Sun Eaters)\, Zeic’s ongoing preoccupations with the natural\, the lesbian\, and the historical/ mythical come together to mark the locality of the body. Nature here does not signify the biological – rather\, it points to the connectedness of the body with the history of the soil where from it comes. Histories of land and soil have long been interconnected with those of gender\, body\, and sexuality\, these connections marked as much in spiritual practices as in legislative regulations. The natural materials Zeic uses in her work – the wood\, the hay\, the nettle ropes – come to articulate a rootedness of the desiring\, transhistorical lesbian gaze in its locality. \n\n\n\n\nSpeaking on bringing her work to Ireland\, artist Liliana Ziec says: “I’m incredibly excited to be working with Project Arts Centre. It’s a collaboration I’ve immersed myself in over the past few months\, and I can’t wait to see how my work resonates in this space and in this city. I’m also deeply curious about the institution itself and feel honoured to be part of its programme.” \nThe exhibition is kindly supported by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute\, Poland\, and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Dublin. Project Arts Centre is proudly supported by The Arts Council and Dublin City Council. \nThe exhibition continues until 18 July\, and before it closes\, The Project will be hosting one final closing event to celebrate it on Friday 17 July. This event will be curated by Fatoumata Gandega and will feature a dance performance by Project Artist Alessandra Azeviche. \nImage Credit: Photography by Ste Murray

SUMMARY:Cecilia Danell - The Upside Down World
DESCRIPTION:Last year\, during a forest walk in her homeland of Sweden\, Danell encountered a lake from her childhood. It was uncharacteristically still. Mesmerised by its reflection and an uncanny sense of doubling\, it became the seed and the title painting of the show. These large-scale works ask us to look anew at what’s familiar\, at what we think we know about everything we encounter. \nThe sense of being absent from Sweden for so long has led to Danell reimagining its arboreal landscape as a place of contrasts: the hyper-reality of nature\, but with an echo of Sci-Fi. In Immensity Made Manifold\, an upended tree resembles a multi-tentacled creature. The palette reflects this strangeness – a lilac sky\, rose-streaked tree-bark – an accumulation of hundreds of shades. Danell had an early interest in Colour Theory\, and believes her work has gotten progressively more experimental with colour over the years. \nWithin these green dome settings\, vertical daubs in neon shades appear\, which for Danell\, represent a gravitational pull. But there are invaders too: hunters who build blinds and desecrate rocks with instructions: Stå Här (‘Stand Here’). In Into the Unknown\, an otherwise bucolic scene is interrupted by a yellow arrow defacing the trunk of a tree. Herein lies another conflict: the genuine human need to map and carve out a place in the world\, and the artificial\, intrusive branding of nature by hunters. – Extract from An Accompanying Text written by Sinéad Gleeson \nOpening Reception takes place on Thursday May 28th at 5.30pm. The exhibition runs until June 27th\, 2026 at Kevin Kavanagh\, Dublin \nCecilia Danell (b.1985) is a Swedish-born\, Ireland-based painter with a multidisciplinary practice that incorporates sculpture\, film\, and textiles. \nRecent exhibitions include: EXPO Chicago (solo\, 2026)\, Kevin Kavanagh\, Chicago\, USA\, ‘These Magnetic Magnitudes’ (solo)\, Solstice Arts Centre\, Navan\, Curated by Brenda McParland (2025)\, ’In Bloom’ 532 Gallery Jaeckel (Basel\, 2025)\, ‘Salong Östergötland’ Linköping Konsthall (Sweden\, 2025)\, and ‘Mise en scène’\, Centre Culturel Irlandais\, Paris (2021). \nHer work is in the collections of The Arts Council of Ireland\, The Office of Public Works\, Trinity College Dublin\, The Cleveland Clinic\, USA\, Fidelity Investments\, Boston\, USA\, University College Cork\, Ballinglen Arts Foundation\, Galway City Council\, Wexford County Council\, Region Kalmar\, Sweden and Motala Municipal Council\, Sweden as well as private collections in Ireland\, UK\, Sweden\, Canada\, France\, Spain\, United States and Norway.

SUMMARY:3+5 - Evgeniya Martirosyan
DESCRIPTION:A new installation at The Mermaid by Cork-based artist Evgeniya Martirosyan\, presents artworks that examine how knowledge can be manipulated and how information degrades over time. A sculptural installation composed of books in multiple languages\, alongside maps\, personal documents and photographs\, evokes a classroom environment shaped by control and repetition\, yet de-stabilised by corrosion. \nThe exhibition title ‘3+5’ refers to recent events in the artist’s country of origin\, Russia. Following the 2022 escalation of the conflict with Ukraine\, the word “war” was replaced by the phrase “Special Military Operation.” The coded message 3+5 references the structure of the Russian phrase “нет войне”  – “No to War”\, or\, 3+5 letters – which emerged as a substitute for anti-war statements which are currently problematic in Russia. School history textbooks continue to be rewritten in line with state narratives\, while many publications are restricted or removed from circulation. \n3+5 has been produced with the support of an Arts Council Bursary Award\, supported by the National Sculpture Factory\, with the assistance of Zbyszek Owczarek. The exhibition was previously shown at LHQ Gallery\, Co Cork. \nImage: © Jed Niezgoda \nThe exhibition continues at Mermaid Arts Centre until July 18th. \nOpen Monday – Saturday\, 11am – 4pm\, and later on performance evenings.

SUMMARY:Kevin McAleenan - Moment
DESCRIPTION:“Moments arrive unannounced. In the rise of a hill\, the whiteness of a gable end\, the curve of a country road… I know it has arrived when I’m caught in that moment.” \nDrawing from everyday moments that beckon him to stillness and reflection\, artist Kevin McAleenan’s paintings veer between realism and abstraction\, centred thematically around Irish landscapes. Carefully balanced blocks of colour and strong vertical lines provide structure and integrity\, while gentle brushstrokes and tonal shifts give the works movement. \nMcAleenan has previously exhibited artworks at The Market Place Theatre and Arts Centre in Armagh. He has also exhibited and sold internationally in cities such as New York\, Singapore and Hong Kong. Now he presents this fascinating solo exhibition at Sol Art Gallery. \nThis exhibition brings together a new body of work in which McAleenan reengages with the quiet moments that shape everyday experience. The exhibition launches on Thursday\, the 23rd of April.   \nThe gallery is open Mon – Sat\, 10.30am to 5.30pm \nFor more information\, see solart.ie   \nFeature Image – Kevin McAleenan\, Drifting

SUMMARY:Sharú
DESCRIPTION:Sharú is a group exhibition bringing together the work of ten artists. The exhibition reflects a multicultural and multinational group of artists working in Ireland today. Together they present painting drawing sculpture and photography that explore ideas of identity roots and ongoing transformation. \nAt the heart of Sharú is the belief that the artist is someone who transcends. SUMMARY:Urban Myth
DESCRIPTION:This month sees Kevin Kavanagh present ‘Urban Myth’\, a group exhibition of photography by gallery and invited artists. These artists demonstrate the changing role of photographs in our digital world. No longer just records of the real or of a moment in time\, they have become the basis of our modern folklore. Where once we gathered round the fire to share stories\, now we pass images from screen to screen. For all the solidity of the phone in our hand\, these images flow by in a turbulent stream. \nAs urban myths\, this folklore permeates every aspect of our daily lives. They are an articulation of our fears and insecurities\, an attempt to put order on an increasingly chaotic world\, and a measure of the society we think we live in. As short videos and memes\, they are the driving force behind much social media. Increasingly\, they dictate the direction of populist politics and of society itself. \nIn ‘Urban Myth’ the photographers become storytellers. The stories they tell grapple with the underlying drivers of our new digital urban lives. They reflect our desires and our fears in a world of isolated individuals cut off from their natural roots and struggling with the unknown. \nAs information becomes less reliable\, the perceived unknown becomes more threatening. There may be monsters here\, but what are they?… \nExtract from an accompanying text written by Martin Shiels.  \nUrban Myth opens at Kevin Kavanagh Gallery on Thursday 8th January from 6pm\, featuring work from artists:\nMichael Boran | Elaine Byrne | Gary Coyle | Dragana Jurišić | Sean Lynch | Scott Nokia | Adrian O’Carroll | Izabela Szczutkowska \nThe exhibition runs from 8th January – 7th February 2026. The gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday 11am – 5pm

SUMMARY:Lucid Dreaming\, dlr Open Exhibition 2025
DESCRIPTION:‘Art is a crystallisation of fantasy.  Of our fevered desires\, flippant whims and untold fears. It – like the ancient practice of lucid dreaming – is difficult to master. Children are more adept at both these things than adults.  The subconscious hasn’t been walled off yet by the psychological hurdles adolescence brings.  The skill of the artist is the skill of the lucid dreamer: that of control.  To temper the base air of the psyche to some sort of distilled resolution’.  – Davey Moor \nDún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is currently showing Lucid Dreaming\, dlr Open Exhibition of visual art by artists who have studied in\, are originally from\, or are living or working in the County. Artists were invited to submit work on the theme of Lucid Dreaming. The exhibition was selected and curated by Royal Hibernian Academy Curator\, Davey Moor\, through an open submission process. Moor has worked as a curator since 2004 in a range of independent and institutional roles\, including Monster Truck\, 2008-2014.  He was previously a Director of Kevin Kavanagh Gallery 2008-2010 and Collections Manager and Registrar at the Irish State Art Collection at the OPW from 2010-2024. \nAlongside the exhibition\, dlr Arts Office is also running a programme of accompanying talks\, workshops and events. This offers many opportunities for people of all ages to interact with the gallery in different ways\, learning about and trying out different art-making techniques. \nFor further details\, visit the website:  dlrcoco.ie/arts \nImage credit: Eimear Carvill\, Tranquility 1\, 2025 \nLucid Dreaming\, Selected and Curated by Davey Moor\, Curator\, Royal Hibernian Academy\, Dublin runs at dlr Lexicon from 7 December 2025 – 15 February 2026

SUMMARY:Stephanie Deady - Emotional Calculus
DESCRIPTION:“Thrilling\, quicksilver arrangements of fierce movement\, Deady’s new paintings are also\, and simultaneously\, models of balance\, poise and restraint: amalgams of sensibility and sense\, feeling and thought. With their intricate\, concentric patterning and vigorous\, rhythmic pulse\, they relate metaphorically to the currency of daily life\, the colour of moods and feelings and the dynamics of human relationships. \nOccupying a space free from the rules of naturalistic representation\, the paintings fuse inner and outer worlds\, and allow for a longer\, considered view over time. The energies of the compositions are in most cases generated by two adjoining figures\, and the way they create and are in turn shaped by the traffic of interaction between them. \nPowerful internal currents animate each of them\, whole worlds of feeling. As with the artist’s earlier Measure for Measure works\, this entails a powerful intimation of bodily presence and action: a choreography of stance\, attitude\, movement\, gesture\, nuance – and vision. Colour\, sparing yet intense\, sets the temperature of the mood. Spatially\, we are in a zone as expansive as a biblical desert\, and as abstract\, in which we try to orient ourselves.” –  Aidan Dunne \nOpening Thursday 20th November at 6pm\, Stephanie Deady – Emotional Calculus runs at The Kevin Kavanagh Gallery from Thursday November 20th – Saturday December 20th 2025 \nFeature Image: Stephanie Deady\, Emotional Calculus\, oil on birch plywood\, 26 x 35.5 cm\, 2025
