SUMMARY:Day Fever Dublin
DESCRIPTION:‘We knew that there were people out there\, like us\, who would want to spend a Saturday afternoon partying the day away\, but nothing prepared us for the avalanche of tickets that flew out the door! We quickly realised that people wanted more and more\, so here we are! Get your dancing shoes on again\, boys and girls\, because Day Fever has arrived in Ireland\, in Dublin. It’s one of the world’s great party cities!’ \nSo says Vicky McClure\, of the epic Day Fever which returns to Dublin this September. The event boasts a record streak of completely selling out their events from London to Manchester\, from Cardiff to Glasgow and more. Guaranteed it will be the afternoon where you will dance like no other. \nDay Fever advises readers of Totally Dublin that there are just three rules… \nRule 1 – Over 30’s only \nRule 2 – Get ya glad rags on \nRule 3 – No dickheads! \nWho can argue with that? \nTickets from €15 + Booking Fee at Ticketmaster.ie

It is hoped that he will come to play in Dublin at a future date\, but no doubt there is a great night in store with some brilliant beats to close off the summer of 2025. \nAfter Eight takes place on Saturday August 30th with music by Shrem and support by GIITA. SUMMARY:MANY MEs By Rocío Dominguez
DESCRIPTION:Argentinian dance artist Rocío Dominguez reflects on her personal experiences of transit\, loss\, and rebirth. Echoes of a sister’s death\, the lingering wounds of a violent love relationship\, and the ache of a distant home intertwine in this stunning piece of work. In MANY MEs\, Rocío is joined on stage by a hologrammatic version of herself\, created by visual artist Ross Ryder\, a hologram that acts in turns as a memory and a partner. \n \nFellow Argentinian\, music composer Ingrid Bocek has drawn on sounds from Ireland and Argentina\, sounds of water\, and of spoken text\, to create the soundscape for MANY MEs. \nProject Arts Centre – The Space Upstairs \n18th February\, 7:30pm \nTickets: projectartscentre.ie \nFeature image Credit – Patricio Cassinoni

SUMMARY:DanceHall Blues - CoisCéim
DESCRIPTION:As dusk descends over Dublin\, members of the public are invited into the enchanting realm of CoisCéim Dance Theatre at their headquarters in Fairview Strand. There\, the historic late 19th-century former post office\, will transform into the pulsating heartbeat of the city – a dancehall like no other. \nCoisCéim Dance Theatre’s newest production\, “DanceHall Blues” is set to premiere on Sunday\, September 8th\, under the direction of visionary choreographer David Bolger. The new production is described as a “shapeshifter” and promises to be one of the most memorable shows at this year’s Dublin Fringe Festival. This performance will bring together Stephanie Dufresne and Alex O’Neill\, two of Ireland’s most exciting dancers\, for the first time\, in an electrifying duet that captures the unwavering resilience of the human spirit. \nDanceHall Blues will make use of the dance company’s studios in the iconic building on Fairview Strand\, designed in 1888 by architect Robert Cochrane. The show is an anchor of CoisCéim’s Dance Theatre’s programme celebrating its 30th year\, coinciding with the 30th birthday of the Dublin Fringe Festival. \nDanceHall Blues will continue from September 10th-15th & 19th-21st as part of the Dublin Fringe Festival. CoisCéim has been leading the way in accessible ticket pricing in recent years\, and with this production continues to offer pay-what-you-can tickets. \nFor further details see coisceim.com \nImage: CoisCéim Dance Theatre’s Stephanie Dufresne & Alex O’Neill in David Bolger’s DanceHall Blues. SUMMARY:Grand Theft Audio presents: The Sounds of Vice City
DESCRIPTION:Those of us old enough to remember what a hilarious and well curated revelation the ‘Grand Theft Auto: Vice City’ soundtrack was cannot afford to miss the opportunity to marry nostalgia with a rollicking good time. This 9 piece big band have long been celebrated for their kinetic virtuosity and playing shows that are as raucous and irreverent as the games themselves. If you have a passing interest in dancing your backside off\, make it your business to be there. \nGrand Theft Audio presents: The Sounds of Vice City at The Grand Social\, D1 on June 22nd\,  8.30pm – 11am.

SUMMARY:The Weight
DESCRIPTION:We’ve long admired work by Luca Truffarelli in all its guises whether it is his evocative photography or powerful video work with the likes of dancer and choreographer Oona Doherty. Movement\,  fluidity and grace are at the core of his offerings. Now with the world premiere of The Weight\, Truffarelli creates a new immersive dance work which explores ideas of freedom and the individualism of human beings…shining a spotlight on workers’ rights. With an orchestral backdrop specially composed by Greg Haines and recorded with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra\, The Weight was originally conceived with Doherty and developed with Swiss-based dancer Erin O’Reilly. \nA charitable donation of €2 will be made to Sea-Watch per ticket.

SUMMARY:Premiere of Company Philip Connaughton’s LOVE SONGS
DESCRIPTION:Company Philip Connaughton returns with the premiere run of Love Songs\, a seductive and provocative new dance show revelling in the infinite possibilities of love. As the talented Dublin choreographer and dancer brings his unique vision to his most ambitious work to date\, Love Songs offers audiences a chance to embark on a journey of exploration in the company of a beguiling cast of eight inter-generational performers bent on entertaining. \n“The starting point for Love Songs was me wondering how my grandparents – who were all born pre 1900’s – might hypothetically look on my lifestyle now as a gay man\, and if\, or how\, they might respond to that. This got me thinking about how radically things have changed in society between then and now\, and how creating a language around love is an incredibly important tool without which it’s sometimes hard to even imagine certain situations if they don’t affect you directly. So in this piece we are thinking about different or as yet unconsidered relationships of love in our ever-changing society\, and with this powerful and dynamic ensemble\, we’re creating an experience filled with poignancy\, humour\, passion\, and purpose.” – Philip Connaughton \nAnd so the stage of the Project Arts Centre\, is set for a Christmas spectacle that sees Helen Jordan\, Fearghus Ó Conchúir\, Andy de Souza\, Orla Dwyer\, Isabella Oberländer\, Anna Kaszuba\, Clare Adam and Philip Connaughton take a deep\, devotional\, dive into the glorious undefinable\, while tethered to a love song. \n \nLove Songs is presented by Company Philip Connaughton in association with Once Off Productions\, Project Arts Centre\, and Cork Opera House. Love Songs is funded by the Arts Council. Philip Connaughton is a Resident Artist at Project Arts Centre. \nPerformances 7.30pm Wed 14th (Preview) – Sat 17th December \nMatinee Performance Saturday 17th at 2.30pm \nProject Arts Centre

SUMMARY:Yes and Yes
DESCRIPTION:Yes and Yes takes its title from the final episode of Ulysses which both begins and ends with a “yes”. “…yes I said yes I will Yes”; the famous last words of the book\, exclaimed by Molly Bloom. This dance piece by choreographer Liz Roche sees four dancers journey through the episodes of Ulysses\, exploring the sensuality\, absurdity\, release\, and resignation of the book in movement with four extraordinary dancers and through film\, sound\, and design. Over 70 minutes\, the work maps the movement of the narrative through the streets of Dublin in 1904 and explores those same spaces and encounters today\, with contemporary bodies revealing new and surprising connections. \n Photo Credit: Steve O’Connor\n \nProject Arts Centre\, Thursday November 10 to Saturday November 12\, €14/€18 \n

SUMMARY:Dance Highlight: The River
DESCRIPTION:From football pitches to contemporary dance\, 17 women primarily from Ballybough and Sheriff Street will take to the stage in Project Arts Centre. \nFor the last 6 months the women have been trained in a unique and evolving dance practice by choreographer Maria Nilsson Waller and singer/composer Stace Gill/The Sei under their Flora Fauna Project: a multidisciplinary production house rooted in dance and music. \n \nThe women came from two GAA teams brought together by Dublin GAA player Michale Darragh MacAuley who is a supporter of the project in the NEIC.  “Football brought us together\, dancing is keeping us together” says Tracey/Ballybough GAA for Ma’s. \n \n“As a choreographer I am always looking for rawness and bravery in the performers\, and I decided to work with non-professional dancers. These women really bring it! I dream\, prepare and encourage and am careful not to put the filters of my own dance education on to what these dancers create.” Nilsson Waller says about the piece. \n \n“The River” will be the women’s first time on a professional stage and their comfort zones are being challenged to the max.  The last 6 months have been transformative for everyone involved. Sharing what they have learned will be a new level and a rare experience both for performers and audience. \n“Me kids asked me\, ‘Ma\, where ye goin?’ I’m goin’ to be meself for an hour”. – Jackie/Ballybough \nThe music is composed and performed live on stage by THE SEI / Stace Gill. \nStace Gill\, who herself started her dance training only a few years ago says: \n“Finding the flow between body and imagination is a game changer in life. These powerful women on stage completely embody this for the audience to see and feel.’ \n \nTHE RIVER is feminine\, loaded with echoes of traditional Dublin\, the second piece PIDGIN’ represents masculine spirit and multicultural Ireland. \nPidgin\, performed by internationally successful Irish/Nigerian dance artist Mufutau Yusuf\, refers to the simplified or bastardised language which came into existence as a result of contact between two or more languages\, occurring for example in situations like trade\, migration and colonisation. The piece is also a personal take on his own upbringing\, living his early childhood in Nigeria and then growing up in Ireland . \nThe River + Pidgin \nFriday 6th 7.30pm \nSaturday 2.30pm + 7.30 pm \nTICKETS projectartscentre.ie \nflorafaunaproject.com

DESCRIPTION:Where will Jeff Mills go when he wishes to return here next? And he’s not the only one we need to ask this question of. The looming closure of District 8 sounds the death knell of clubbing in the city for sets of any decent scale (1000 in this instance). As of now\, it’s safe until the end of the year at least\, but the future will be a lot bleaker in its absence. As the founding father of Detroit collective Underground Resistance\, veteran producer Mills is an artist whose minimalist approach has shaped the course of techno. I was there at the rehearsals the night before it aired to the world from Millstreet\, a small town in North West Cork. Needless to say there were spine shivers at the energy and finesse at what we were witnessing. Mind-blowing is a fair summation. And this sense of awe is what has sustained its juggernaut existence across the globe ever since. 11\,500 performances and been seen live by over 25 million people in over 467 venues worldwide in 47 countries across 6 continents has resulted in a fortune for its devisers  John McColgan and Moya Doherty and connected a global audience with a dash of Irish culture. Bringing it all back home for a summer run is a bona fide crowd-pleaser too. \nRuns until September 3rd \n  \n  \n
