DESCRIPTION:As dusk descends over Dublin\, members of the public are invited into the enchanting realm of CoisCéim Dance Theatre at their headquarters in Fairview Strand. There\, the historic late 19th-century former post office\, will transform into the pulsating heartbeat of the city – a dancehall like no other. \nCoisCéim Dance Theatre’s newest production\, “DanceHall Blues” is set to premiere on Sunday\, September 8th\, under the direction of visionary choreographer David Bolger. The new production is described as a “shapeshifter” and promises to be one of the most memorable shows at this year’s Dublin Fringe Festival. This performance will bring together Stephanie Dufresne and Alex O’Neill\, two of Ireland’s most exciting dancers\, for the first time\, in an electrifying duet that captures the unwavering resilience of the human spirit. \nDanceHall Blues will make use of the dance company’s studios in the iconic building on Fairview Strand\, designed in 1888 by architect Robert Cochrane. DESCRIPTION:We’ve long admired work by Luca Truffarelli in all its guises whether it is his evocative photography or powerful video work with the likes of dancer and choreographer Oona Doherty. Movement\,  fluidity and grace are at the core of his offerings. Now with the world premiere of The Weight\, Truffarelli creates a new immersive dance work which explores ideas of freedom and the individualism of human beings…shining a spotlight on workers’ rights. With an orchestral backdrop specially composed by Greg Haines and recorded with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra\, The Weight was originally conceived with Doherty and developed with Swiss-based dancer Erin O’Reilly. \nA charitable donation of €2 will be made to Sea-Watch per ticket.

DESCRIPTION:From football pitches to contemporary dance\, 17 women primarily from Ballybough and Sheriff Street will take to the stage in Project Arts Centre. \nFor the last 6 months the women have been trained in a unique and evolving dance practice by choreographer Maria Nilsson Waller and singer/composer Stace Gill/The Sei under their Flora Fauna Project: a multidisciplinary production house rooted in dance and music. \n \nThe women came from two GAA teams brought together by Dublin GAA player Michale Darragh MacAuley who is a supporter of the project in the NEIC.  “Football brought us together\, dancing is keeping us together” says Tracey/Ballybough GAA for Ma’s. \n \n“As a choreographer I am always looking for rawness and bravery in the performers\, and I decided to work with non-professional dancers. These women really bring it! I dream\, prepare and encourage and am careful not to put the filters of my own dance education on to what these dancers create.” Nilsson Waller says about the piece. \n \n“The River” will be the women’s first time on a professional stage and their comfort zones are being challenged to the max.  The last 6 months have been transformative for everyone involved. Sharing what they have learned will be a new level and a rare experience both for performers and audience. \n“Me kids asked me\, ‘Ma\, where ye goin?’ I’m goin’ to be meself for an hour”. – Jackie/Ballybough \nThe music is composed and performed live on stage by THE SEI / Stace Gill. \nStace Gill\, who herself started her dance training only a few years ago says: \n“Finding the flow between body and imagination is a game changer in life. These powerful women on stage completely embody this for the audience to see and feel.’ \n \nTHE RIVER is feminine\, loaded with echoes of traditional Dublin\, the second piece PIDGIN’ represents masculine spirit and multicultural Ireland. \nPidgin\, performed by internationally successful Irish/Nigerian dance artist Mufutau Yusuf\, refers to the simplified or bastardised language which came into existence as a result of contact between two or more languages\, occurring for example in situations like trade\, migration and colonisation. Italian choreographer Roberto Castello fuses cinema\, dance and theatre in We go around at night consumed by fire which explores lives engulfed by endless desire. \nOn the home front\, the Liz Roche company presents I/Thou with live music\, dance and song in response to paintings by artist Brian O’Doherty. Inventions by the Irish Modern Dance Theatre portrays two contrasting couples – one falling in love and the other falling into an abyss – and includes Merce Cunningham start Ashley Chen. DFF regular Colin Dunne performs with Olivier Award-winning Flemish-Moroccan choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui in Session.
