SUMMARY:Kaleidoscope Night & The Night Wit...
DESCRIPTION:Kaleidoscope Night and The Night With… present an evening with violinist Emma Jane Lloyd and cellist Naomi Berrill on Wednesday 1st October 2025 at Bello Bar\, Dublin 8. \nThe audience can look forward to an adventurous evening of contemporary compositions\, improvisation Jazz and song for your curious ears\, featuring the music of Egidija Medekšaitė\, Emma Jane Lloyd. Matthew Whiteside\, Émilie Girard-Charest\, Rylan Gleave\, Sam Perkin (Irish premiere)\, Naomi Berrill and Bill Whelan. \nEmma Lloyd performs a programme of contemporary works that explore the violin’s expressive possibilities through extended techniques\, electronics\, and open-ended interpretation. Featuring music from her album mue\, the concert brings together pieces shaped by long-standing collaborations and a shared curiosity for sound. \nFrom delicate textures to dense sonorities\, each work approaches the violin in a unique way as Emma’s own caprices esquisses push the instrument to its sonic limits\, embracing the unpredictable. \nThese works are shaped by long-standing creative relationships between Emma and the composers and a shared curiosity for the violin’s possibilities. At the heart of the concert is an exploration of sound in flux—where each performance is a conversation between structure and spontaneity. As an improviser\, Emma’s performance tends to be quiet and intimate in nature\, exploring the innate timbral qualities of the violin\, and discovering some of the often hidden sounds that can be found with her unique combination of technique and tools. \n \nNaomi Berrill is a cellist\, singer and composer originally from Ireland\, now based in Florence\, Italy\, Naomi is one of the most eclectic voices in today’s music scene. After her classical training\, she developed a unique language using the cello as an accompanying instrument to her voice\, while exploring new harmonic possibilities of the cello . Her work extends to theatre\, contemporary dance\, and design and she has collaborated with artists such as Arvo Pärt\, Giovanni Sollima and Mario Brunello. \nShe is founder of the High Notes Festival in the Apuan Alps\, now in its 14th edition. In 2024\, she was commissioned by the Cellissimo festival by Music for Galway to compose a work for string ensemble\, choir\, ukulele ensemble and solo cello. Her performance at the Ice Music Festival\, playing an ice cello on the Presena Glacier at 2\,600 meters altitude\, remains iconic. \nProgramme \nMue – album performance by Emma Jane Lloyd \nfreely\, darkly\, deeply by Matthew Whiteside \nSmall Haven by Rylan Gleave \ncaprices esquisses by Emma Jane Lloyd \nMue by Émilie Girard-Charest \nMishra Pilu By Egidija Medekšaitė \nImprovisation – Naomi Berrill  (cello anf voice) & Emma Jane Lloyd (violin) \nFragments – by Bill Whelan \n(commissioned by Music for Galway for Cellissimo Festival 2020) \n  \nBlue –  by Naomi Berrill \nGalatea – by Naomi Berrill \nSea Warrior – by Naomi Berrill \nIncantation – by Sam Perkin (Irish Premiere) \n  \nKaleidoscope Night & The Night With … takes place on Wednesday 1st October 2025 Bat ello Bar \n8pm doors/ 8.30pm music Tickets €18\, Early Bird €15 \nStudent Rate €5 from Kaleidoscopenight.ie \nTickets here.

SUMMARY:Metronome 60 BPM
DESCRIPTION:With performances by David Stalling\, Ruth McGinley\, Chiamaka Enyi-Amadi\, Matthew Nolan\, Stevie Appelby\, Arrivalists and some very special guests\, Metronome returns to the NCH with 60 BPM\,  a specially curated evening of sensory pleasure with neurodivergent audiences in mind. \nIt’s said that the sound of a metronome set at 60 beats per minute is inherently relaxing so pull up a bean bag and enjoy 360 degrees of performance where music\, poetry and spoken word will emerge from a foundation of ambience and visual repose. Curated by SoFFt Productions\, The National Concert Hall and Matthew Nolan Music\, the evening aims to engage with artists in a new way; to think about how art and music can be presented with decompressions and chill at the core using design\, space and beats. \nFamous songs that are 60 bpm? Dreams by Fleetwood Mac\, Everybody’s Talkin’ by Nilsson\, Cat Power’s The Greatest\, Heart Of Gold by Neil Young and TLC’s Waterfalls. \nThe Studio – National Concert Hall \nSat June 8th 8.30pm

SUMMARY:Foggy Notions: Claire Rousay
DESCRIPTION:Spectacular San Antonio experimentalist Claire Rousay is touring behind the excellent ‘sentiment’\, her newest album through the ever-insightful Thrill Jockey records. \nThe record is a hazy collection of ambient electronic collage\, dreamy synth textures\, melancholy AutoTune and granular melodies seamed though with threads of jagged guitar\, with the field recordings of everyday life; voicemails\, haptics\, stop watches and whispers baying and weaving in and out of the mix. \nAs always\, Dublin promoters Foggy Notions can be relied upon to bring you staggeringly essential music\, delivered in beautiful confines\, collaborating with the Project Arts Theatre for an intimate performance that promises to be nothing short of spellbinding. \nClaire Rousay plays at The Project Arts Centre\, on Saturday June 1st

SUMMARY:Live Collision Festival - Farah Elle
DESCRIPTION:Dubliner Farah Elle’s sound touches on her Libyan roots and Irish heritage with a contemporary pop sensibility\, while her evocative lyrics sing of growth and perseverance. Like contemporaries Sive and Laura Duff\, Elle’s unique approach defines her as a singer songwriter. This performance\, is part of the Live Collision Festival running from the 25th to the 27th of April. Back in 2016\, we had this to say: “Elle mixes a powerful stage presence with a curious blend of genres that sees her Irish accent drift into Arabic-influenced melismas”\, and she has only gotten better since. \nProject Arts Centre\, 25th April\, 9pm

SUMMARY:Glasshouse perform Ryuichi Sakamoto
DESCRIPTION:We watched Coda on MUBI recently. This documentary celebrated the remarkable legacy of composer Ryuichi Sakamoto exploring his life and work\, offering a fascinating glimpse into the artistic process of the renowned musician who passed away in March 2023. Best known for the soundtrack to Merry Christmas\, Mr Lawrence and being a founding member of Tokyo’s pioneering computer-pop trio Yellow Magic Orchestra\, Sakamoto had a prolific career composing soundtracks for the likes of Alejandro G Iñárritu and a beautiful final album 12 which was recorded during hospital stays. SUMMARY:Christmas Carols
DESCRIPTION:Tis the season to pour some mulled wine and indulge one of the finest traditions. One of the reasons Christmas carols bring such a sense of consolation and connection is surely their familiarity. Most of us have sung them since our primary school days. We pride ourselves on knowing the words. As the word carol – a joyful song – suggests\, carols bring us together and connect us in groups of shared experience and feelings. The grand 19th Century congregational numbers – O Come All Ye Faithful for instance – is a rousing hymn of communal praise. Here are some which you can listen to or sing to your heart’s content. \n‘Peace on Earth’ Christmas Carols at Christ Church Cathedral with the St Mary’s College Singers\, Saturday December 2\, 8pm – 9.15pm\, €25. \nChristmas Carol Concert for Cancer Research\, Trinity College Chapel\, Tuesday December 5\, 6pm-7.30pm\, €30. \nNew Dublin Voices\, Christchurch Cathedral\, Saturday December 9\, 8pm\, €20/€25. \n‘Joy to the World’ Glória LGBT+ Choir\, St Andrew’s Church\, Friday December 15\, 7.30pm\, €20/€25.

SUMMARY:Jeff Mills presents Tomorrow Comes the Harvest
DESCRIPTION:Tomorrow Comes the Harvest: Throw came about when the late afrobeat legend Tony Allen linked up with techno pioneer Jeff Mills to cross-pollinate their sounds in 2018 and see what happened. Sadly\, Allen shuffled off this mortal coil in 2020. Mills has persisted with the project bringing in tabla player Prabhu Edouard and keyboardist Jean-Phi Dary to fill the void ahead of an album release at the start of September. In truth\, you will know whether this is your thing fairly quickly placing it into the transcendental sonic spiritualism category or the ‘you couldn’t pay me…’ \n \nNational Concert Hall\, Saturday September 23\, €49.50

SUMMARY:Feist
DESCRIPTION:Last time we had Feist round these parts\, she was stepping away from a support slot with Arcade Fire (remember them?) after a flurry of sexual assault accusations against Win Butler emerged. Thankfully\, she is back on her own terms bringing her latest release Multitudes in tow. It’s a quieter affair than previous efforts\, one born of out the experience of becoming a parent and losing one. Recording with a digital eight-track recorder and nylon string guitar reflects the intimacy she brings to this release which slowly builds into beauts such as Borrow Trouble which will segue into the clutch of stratospheric hits off her 2007 breakthrough album The Reminder. \n \nNational Concert Stadium\, Wednesday September 6.

SUMMARY:Pulp
DESCRIPTION:There’s a lot of nostalgia rolling through town in June; Soft Cell\, Pet Shop Boys\, Gladys Knight\, Peter Gabriel\, Blur and Kraftwerk are all cropping up at some point. But Pulp is our pick of the lot. There’s a variety of reasons for this\, one very simple one is that it is on a Friday. \n \nThis made be a crude means of evaluation but there’s a lot to be said in getting the weekend started with a gig rather than having mid-week hesitations and fears. The last time we caught Pulp here was back in 2011 at the Electric Picnic when Jarvis Cocker proved he’s up there with Jagger and Cave when it comes to a spindly-leg strut. Sadly sans Steve Mackey\, their bass guitarist\, who died last year\, Pulp have witty bangers aplenty mostly culled from their Different Class and This is Hardcore. Let’s all meet up in the year 2023? \n \nSt Anne’s Park\, Friday June 9\, €49.90
