Literary Grandmothers літературні бабусі

Literary Grandmothers літературні бабусі is a new collaboration between Irish poet Julie Morrissy and Ukrainian-American writer Darina Sikmashvili, supported by Dublin UNESCO City of Literature and the Dublin Festival of History. This unique new collab features two fascinating events: In-Conversation and Literary Reading on Thursday, September 26th at 6pm, and Workshop on Writing Family Archives on Saturday, September 28th at 12pm, both at Pearse Street LibraryMorrissy and Sikmashvili will discuss womanhood across cultures and the role of grandmothers in their respective poetry and fiction. This will be Sikmashvili’s first ever reading in Ireland. Both events are free to attend. Booking is essential, details here

About The Artists
Julie Morrissy is a poet from Dublin. She was the first Poet-in-Residence at the National Library of Ireland from 2021-22. In her role, she produced a publication of poetry, maps, translation, photography and research notes titled Radical! Women and the Irish Revolution, a podcast series and a walking tour. Her awards include the Next Generation Artist Award from the Arts Council, the Newman Fellowship in Creativity, and the MAKE Theatre Award.

Darina Sikmashvili was born in Lubny, Ukraine, and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Her writing has been generously supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Elizabeth George Foundation, and the Hopwood Awards, among others. She has received scholarships from the Can Sarrat Writing Residency, the Laimun Artists’ Residency, and the Sewanee Writers’ Conference. Sikmashvili holds an MFA in fiction from the University of Michigan’s Helen Zell Writers’ Program and previously worked in film.
