This year, electronic music seems to have been pushed to the back of the Electric Picnic's shelf. While at first glance this will be a disappointment for many, the line up is far from barren, and there are several gems tucked away in small type at the bottom of the poster. Local DJs often trot out the best sets of the Stradbally extravaganza, and Picnic veteran Calvin James kicks off the year's mucky festivities in the Bacardi Bar on Friday evening. He rocks it every year, and good money suggests this year will be no different. Dam-Funk rolls up with his spaced -out, west coast, G-funk on Sunday, keytar and vocoder in tow, and guaranteed sleazetastic. If you're of the dub persuasion, Bristol boy Joker's agro-step will gladly start on you if you're looking for a scrap come Saturday night.
Trudging around in mud all weekend can dampen a buzz severely; the turbo-camp disco of Daniel Wang and Horse Meat Disco will luckily be on hand to perk up any moaners. If those names don't scratch your itch, the mind-blowing Beardyman will be on hand with his live, beat box sampling show.
