Marcel Dettman @ Twisted Pepper - 23 January 2010
Preview 04 January 2010
There's so much buzz surrounding East Germany-born Marcel Dettmann it's surprising it doesn't mess up his decks. The archetypal German techno DJ, Dettmann's star has risen quicker than most. Up until 2008 his name was barely known outside his adopted hometown - now he's as hotly-tipped as a mini-Michael Meyer. Dettmann's home is Berlin's Berghain club where he holds a montly residency (and frequently performs 6hr sets), honing his trademark dark minimal sound. Growing up listening to gothy post-punk and synthpop like The Cure, Depeche Mode and DAF had a direct effect on his chosen brand of dance. 2010 should see the release of his debut album, after a succession of collaborations with Shed & Ben Klock and the best Fever Ray remix from a very, very large pool of Fever Ray remixes - you'll have to do with a Twisted Pepper show on the 23rd for now, though.
