Roadmap: Rocking The System

Posted January 30, 2018 in More

Here’s hoping 2018 will be the year when women (and men) rock the foundations of the antiquated system, namely by repealing the Eight Amendment.

Rocking the System: Fearless and Amazing Irish Women who Made History by Siobhán Parkinson is a crash course on twenty such women replete with illustrated essays.

From Queen Medhbh (b. 1st Century BC) to Sonia O’Sullivan (b. 1969), a good few familiar names are present (Constance Markievicz, Eileen Gray, Mary Robinson) while others deserve greater recognition (Mainie Jellett, Lelia Doolan) and we never heard of Dorothy Stopford Price who was pivotal in eradicating TB in this country.

Rocking the System will be launched, by Senator Ivana Bacik, this Thursday 1 February at 6pm – Lá Fhéile Bríde – in Poetry Ireland. Little Island, €15
