Theo + George is not just another fashion label. Award winning designer Katie O’Riordan has relaunched her online brand Theo + George, with a focus on combining quality, sustainability and comfort, producing a premium yet accessible collection designed for the modern woman. Sustainability is a key driver for the business and the brand. And, with nearly a quarter of a million tonnes of clothing going to landfills a year in Ireland alone, she felt it was important to create a brand that raised awareness about these issues.

In creating this collection, Katie felt that it was important that the brand and clothing was premium, debunking the myth that sustainable clothes have to look and feel a certain way. She wanted the consumer to be seduced by the beauty and quality of the clothes first and then find out that they were sustainable.  When she designed the collection, she wanted it to be the perfect capsule wardrobe, providing all the essentials you need to get through the season.

The goal of a capsule wardrobe, is to achieve a minimal closet that contains just enough options for any occasion but without “excess” items, Katie believes. “Our philosophy is that balance is key. We think of a capsule wardrobe as a mentality shift in how how we shop for and choose our garments. Buy less, choose well, and make it last. The more emphasis you put into choosing garments that will last and stay in style the more value you get out of the investment.”

The key pieces in their capsule collection include:

Ella Crew Neck Cashmere Sweater, €139

All of their cashmere is sourced from Mongolia, and their factory is completely vertical meaning they work directly with the herdsman to source the yarns. They then process the yarns themselves and produce the garments in their own factory.  It is this transparency that allows them to ensure that their consumers are getting quality garments and that the workers are getting paid fairly.

Jill Oversized V Neck Tee, €39

Theo + George t-shirts are all sourced in Portugal.  The fabric is produced locally and in high-quality fabrics.  The Jill oversized V neck tee is made of a cotton/modal blend, the modal gives enhanced breathability, shape retention, and softness.

Laura Shirt Dress, €129

An everyday classic style that will fit seamlessly into your wardrobe. The Laura Shirt Dress is made of 100% bamboo fabric for ultimate sustainability and comfort.

Erin Stepped Skinny Jeans, €179

Premium Italian denim with a modern stepped hem design.  The perfect blend of cotton and elastane for comfort and ease of movement.  A perfect capsule wardrobe essential.  These jeans won’t lose their shape, even if you wear them every day.

Payton French Terry Dress, €119

The most comfortable dress on earth – made from 100% cotton French terry fabric, this dress is a true staple in your wardrobe.  We love the thumbhole design detail and the ultra warm cotton fabric.

Emma Long Sleeve Breton Stripe Top, €59

A true classic, this heavyweight stripe top is a timeless addition to your closet.  The classic boat neck detail, drop shoulders and split hem give this design effortless style.  The heavyweight fabric is perfect for even the coldest of days.

Understand that, whether we like it or not, the modern clothing industry has a significant impact on the environment as well as the social well-being of those that make our clothes. The more we buy, the more pressure we put on the infrastructure holding up the fashion industry.

It is our take that Theo + George have successfully found the balance.  The clothes are luxuriously soft, beautifully designed, and consists of the wardrobe staples we all need.  The brand’s focus on sustainability and doing things right makes it even more enticing.
