Street Feast

From 18 July 2010 to 18 July 2010

Street Feast

Ever wondered how best to bridge those habitually stilted conversations with neighbours you barely know? Street Feast provides a simple answer, proposing a do-it-yourself grub day that’s taking place nation-wide on Sunday, July 18th.

Bonding through the love and sharing of food goes way back. In the good old days of the premodern, the basic nucleus of “the family” extended far beyond parents and children; this nuclear family was simply too frail to fend for itself. As a result, factions linked up for food and protection.

The concept behind Street Feast is to re-connect communities, a collection of social units connected through locality, nationality, or ideology, à la premodern, to celebrate the joys of good food. So venture out into your street, front garden, or local park this July to carve up some chow and re-connect with the people living around you.
