National Heritage Week

From 21 August 2010 to 29 August 2010

National Heritage Week

This month more than 1000 different events will take place throughout the country to celebrate Irish heritage during National Heritage Week. In Dublin this year, there's everything from a historical home movie showcase at the Irish Film Institute, to genealogy talks,, to a bat walk through Castleknock.

The Heritage Council of Ireland aims to protect and enhance the quality of Irish culture, through the National Heritage week the Council works to increase awareness of Ireland's past and it's importance to everyday life.

Kicking off the week is Wild Child Day on 21st August. The idea is to get parents and children out of the house no matter what the weather. On Sunday the 22nd, the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group are hosting Whale Watch Ireland, led by experienced IWDG personnel, who will show groups how to observe and identify some of the 24 species of whales and dolphins that can be seen in Irish waters. Throughout the week places like the Guinness Storehouse and the National Gallery of Ireland will host tours and free talks on a range of topics.
Running from the 21st to the 29th of August, National Heritage Week is accepting online event registration until the 14th August ensuring huge diversity among events. Information on the festival can be found at Failte Ireland Tourist Offices, Heritage Centres & Historical Societies and the Heritage Week website.
