Converging Territories: Dublin Shadowlands
On exhibition at the Irish Architectural Archive off Merrion Square, Converging Territories: Dublin Shadowland is a photographic exhibition of the empty buildings, housing estates and half-finished development projects abruptly abandoned as the Celtic Tiger came to a screeching halt. Carried out by three French architects over six months, The Dublin Shadowland Project includes photos from the greater Dublin area.
Each architect offers proposals on what should be done with the buildings and how development schemes can be better integrated with their surrounding communities for a sustainable future. Citing the creative opportunities allowed by the cool-off of the construction boom, the architects ponder whether unfinished estates in Clongriffin could be turned into camping sites for tourists, if empty buildings could be used for urban farming or if the U2 tower could be turned into a landmark offering views of the city.
The exhibition opens Friday 21 January, runs from Tuesdays through Fridays and is free and open to the public.
